We browse the early MLB odds board in search of betting value on Monday’s slate. Read on for two selections on two games that will maximize your profits.

Braves At Nationals (-240, 8.5)

The Nats are the biggest favorites on Monday’s board but could be short-handed. For sure out is closer Koda Glover. He was placed on the disabled list Sunday with the type of injury that seemingly would only happen to a baseball player: Glover hurt his back in the shower prior to Saturday’s game against Texas but didn’t tell the team and blew the save in the top of the ninth by allowing two runs in a game that the Nationals would lose 6-3 in 11 innings.

That really infuriated me because I previewed that game here at SBR and had Washington on the run line. Talk about a bad beat.  It was the second blown save this year for Glover and the 10th this season for Washington. The bullpen has been a major issue. It’s why everyone expects the Nats to trade for a closer by the July 31 deadline. Presumably they will use either Blake Treinen or Shawn Kelley at closer while Glover is out. Both failed at that role earlier this season. Meanwhile, first baseman Ryan Zimmerman sat out Sunday with his own back issue. He leads the NL with a .365 average and is third with 17 homers. Zimmerman has now started just one out of the last four games.

Stephen Strasburg (7-2, 2.80) gets the start for Washington. He’s fourth in the NL in wins, fifth in ERA and WHIP (1.02) and eighth in strikeouts (89). Strasburg comes off a loss as he was matched up against Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw on Wednesday and allowed only one earned run while striking out eight in six innings. This will be Strasburg’s third matchup of the season against the Braves and first in D.C. He’s 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA in 14.2 innings, allowing only 11 hits and striking out 21.

Atlanta’s Mike Foltynewicz (4-5, 3.48) has not allowed a run in his past two starts spanning 14 innings along with just six hits to go with 14 strikeouts. The 25-year-old always had great stuff but couldn’t put it all together. He credits improved fastball command for his recent success. Foltynewicz lost his lone 2017 outing vs. Washington, allowing two runs and five hits over seven.

Phillies At Red Sox (-200, 10.5)

Philadelphia will add the designated hitter for this interleague matchup. The Phillies could use all the offensive help they can get as they have scored more than two runs just once in a five-game losing streak. Philly is without second baseman Cesar Hernandez, who was placed on the DL Sunday with a left oblique strain.  He was hitting .277 with five homers and 14 RBIs. Howie Kendrick will start at second while Hernandez is out, with Michael Saunders expected to play most nights in Kendrick’s usual spot in the outfield.

The Phillies start Jerad Eickhoff (0-7, 5.15). He allowed four runs over five innings last time out in a blowout loss in Atlanta. He has a 6.75 ERA in his past eight starts after posting a 2.55 ERA in his first four. Only a few Red Sox have ever faced Eickhoff. Jackie Bradley Jr. and Xander Bogaerts are both 1-for-2 against him.

Boston counters with reigning AL Cy Young winner Rick Porcello. He has regressed in a big way with a 3-8 record and 4.46 ERA. His 104 hits allowed are the most in the American League. Porcello was tagged for six runs last time out over 6.1 innings against the Yankees. Opponents hit .230 against him last year and .306 this year. He also has gotten zero runs of support in seven of his past 10 starts.

I get why this total is the highest of Monday’s games but it’s simply too high. The Phillies aren’t a good offensive team. The ‘under’ has hit in seven straight Boston games on Monday.
