Detroit Tigers vs. Los Angeles Angels
The Anibal Sanchez fade train will continue here for me on Tuesday night as we’ve had a bunch of betting success going against the struggling Tigers starter for the last couple weeks. Sanchez continues to get hit hard and roughed up repeatedly allowing 4+ runs in five straight starts allowing 23 runs in his last 30 innings pitched and his control remains an issue having surrendered close to 5 walks per 9 innings this season which is an abysmal ratio and he’s also given up 5 home runs in his last three starts.

It isn’t likely to be easy for him to navigate his way through an LA Angels lineup which has been highly productive in their last 10 games averaging 4.9 runs per game during that span. On the flip side, the Angels will counter with lefty Hector Santiago who is coming off a dismal showing in Texas allowing 6 runs in a short 2.1 inning stint and he has not pitched as well this season at Angel Stadium coming into this outing with a 5.68 ERA in 4 home starts.

His overall ERA is 4.58 but his advanced numbers: FIP, xFIP and SIERA are all higher than that which indicates he does not have the stuff right now to rely upon him getting hitters out at this point. Santiago did pitch a real strong game against this Detroit lineup last season in this ballpark shutting them out in 7.1 innings and for that reason, I will give him an edge here but only a slight one as his current form and track record at home this season leave much to be desired.

The Over is 9-1 in Anibal Sanchez’s 10 starts this season and the Tigers are just 3-7 with Sanchez on the mound including 1-4 on the road and 0-5 in his last 5 starts. I’ll side with the LA Angels as a small home favorite and Over 8.5 runs on MLB Odds.

Minnesota Twins vs. Oakland Athletics
Two very suspect pitchers take the mound in the second game of this series between the Twins and Athletics on Tuesday night. Regression has grabbed hold of Tyler Duffey as his early run of success was clearly unsustainable with an ERA that was 2-3 runs lower than his FIP and xFIP which indicated a correction was on the way. Duffey has been hammered for 11 runs on 18 hits in 12.1 innings of work over his last two starts against Toronto and Kansas City and both of those games soared Over the total.

Eric Surkamp struggled mightily with Oakland earlier this season before being sent down to Triple A Nashville as he has a 6.55 ERA in 5 starts with the A’s this season but he wasn’t exactly dominant in Triple A before his call-up for this start on Tuesday night as he had a 3.91 ERA in 4 starts down in Triple A and a 4.26 FIP. He’s shown an ability to get outs and rack up strikeouts in the Minors but that success has yet to translate to the Major Leagues for Eric Surkamp and I’m skeptical about his chances for success in his return to Oakland here for this game.

The Minnesota Twins have gotten their offense on track in recent games as they’ve scored 25 runs in their last 4 games during their current 4 game winning streak which includes a weekend series sweep against Seattle. I think we will see runs in bunches from both squads in this one which should provide us with a solid chance of cashing an Over MLB Pick.
