What a special day for those making sports picks and surveying the betting odds with the beginning of the baseball season and the crowning of a NCAA men’s basketball champion all on the same day.

In basketball, the title game opened as a Pick and largely one would assume because Wisconsin beat the team virtually everyone expected to win it all in Kentucky; the Badgers were made one point favorites with little movement on the total. On the baseball diamond, in the early games, both the Yankees and Tigers are sinking home favorites.  Like we say every day, understanding line moves can build your bankroll. (468-415 L167D)

Colorado Rockies vs. Milwaukee Brewers  2:10 ET  ROOT-RM, FS-WI
The Rockies were 21-60 on the road last season, easily the worst record in the big leagues. Both with Troy Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez both in the starting lineup and healthy (for now), those making MLB picks are siding with the underdog and have lowered Colorado from +150 to +135. Early season upsets are common place, but Kyle Lohse appears to be the better pitcher and the teams he pitched for are 8-4 against Colorado. Not an easy call, but Kyle Kendrick and Rocks bullpen is beatable.

MLB Pick – Milwaukee

We have three of today's hottest MLB picks for you here

N.Y. Mets vs. Washington Nationals 4:05 ET ESPN
Being the first day of a new season, MLB baseball handicappers and those overlooking the sportsbooks numbers have little problem playing against a big favorite. Washington is expected to reach the World Series out of the National League and its win total of 93 is top in the majors. With prized recruit Max Scherzer on the mound, little wonder the Nationals were made -190 favorites however; they have tumbled 25 cents on the money line to -165. Scherzer is 24-3 as a home favorite of -150 or more (team’s record), but this is a different ballpark. Bartolo Colon is 20-10 (team’s record) on the road the last couple seasons but was 1-4 versus the Nats last year.

MLB Pick – Washington wins

Atlanta Braves vs. Miami Marlins 4:10 ET  SPSO, FS-FL
Miami is a popular choice to show a great deal of improvement in 2015. Atlanta used to rule the NL East but is in total rebuilding mode before opening their new ballpark in a couple years. Bettors looking the MLB odds just find two teams headed in opposite directions and moved the Marlins from -125 to -140. Right now we do not know how bad the Braves will end up but we do understand Julio Teheran can be a tough customer and he the Atlanta are 10-0 in April the past two years.

MLB Pick – Atlanta wins

L.A. Angels vs. Seattle Mariners  4:10 ET  FS-W, ROOT-NW
This will be the first of several intriguing contests between two clubs who are expected to battle all season long. Though the Angeles had the most wins in baseball last year, Seattle is perceived as more of a team on the rise and that goes for today also, with Felix Hernandez and the Mariners up 15 cents to -160 over Jered Weaver and Halos. King Felix has surrendered only four earned runs in his last six starts versus Anaheim, which have all been victories for the M’s. Weaver and his teammates are 19-12 against Seattle, but only 3-5 of late in Coffee Town.

MLB Pick – Seattle wins

Cleveland Indians vs. Houston Astros (924) HOUSTON 7:10 ET  ESPN
Cleveland became a popular choice among baseball bettors to unseat Detroit as AL Central champions late in the spring. With this the case and having the reigning AL Cy Young award winner in Corey Kluber, one would surmise the Indians would be a popular pick to win their opener. But this has not been the case as the visiting Tribe has sunk from -125 to under -110 at Houston. The Astros improved 19-games last season and added even more power to their lineup. When their starter Dallas Keuchel has been an underdog, Houston is 14-7.

MLB Pick – Lean Houston
