There are some intriguing matchups on the schedule throughout the day and into the night here on hump day. We've researched five games closely and our cappers believe they have a good handle on where to go with their MLB picks.

Oakland Athletics (Kazmir) vs. Kansas City Royals (Vargas)
Covered by Jeff Grant
The winning streak finally came to an end for the Royals last night, but they're still the top dogs in the AL Central thanks to Detroit losing as well.

We've got two lefties in Jason Vargas and Scott Kazmir pitching tonight, and the MLB odds show a toss-up. Kazmir (13-4, 2.73 ERA) has been the better of the two overall, but Vargas hasn't been too shabby either at 8-5 with a 3.48 ERA.

Jeff points out that Vargas has had success with the scheduled umpire, and with Kansas City in such good form, he's on the home team in this spot.

MLB Pick: Royals -105

Toronto Blue Jays (Dickey) vs. Seattle Mariners (Iwakuma)
Covered by Jeff Grant
The Mariners are playing the much better baseball of late, winning three straight on their way to a stellar 8-2 record over their last 10 games.

They'll send out Hisashi Iwakuma to the mound tonight, with knuckleballer R.A. Dickey set to start for the Blue Jays, who are a poor 3-7 in their previous 10 contests.

As you'd expect, Iwakuma and the Mariners are the firm favorites on the MLB betting odds board. And, in expectations that Seattle will keep their good run going, Jeff is backing the hosts to secure another victory.

MLB Pick: Mariners -165

Washington Nationals (Zimmermann) vs. New York Mets (Colon)
Covered by Ross Benjamin
With last night's win, the Nationals moved five games clear of the Braves in the NL East. Can they get another win behind Jordan Zimmermann tonight?

It may not be so straightforward against Bartolo Colon, who's actually performed well at home throughout the season. Coming into tonight, the Mets are an even 28-28 at Citi Field, with the Nationals at 30-29 on the road.

Ross has analyzed this game closely and has opted to select the better overall team in Washington at a relatively cheap price.

MLB Pick: Nationals -128

New York Yankees (Pineda) vs. Baltimore Orioles (Tillman)
Covered by Joe Catalano and Willie Bee
It's been a long time since we've seen Michael Pineda compete in the majors, but he's done well in a couple rehab starts and the Yankees therefore feel comfortable in sending him out to the bump tonight in Baltimore.

Pineda owns a nice 1.83 ERA in limited starts this season, but he'll likely be on a pitch-count tonight. The Orioles turn to Chris Tillman, who's 9-5 with a 3.73 ERA.

There are two different opinions on this game, as Joe believes the value lies with Baltimore, whereas Willie expects a low-scoring game and therefore will be on the UNDER.

MLB Pick: Joe: Orioles -127 // Willie: UNDER 8.5

Colorado Rockies (Matzek) vs. San Diego Padres (Kennedy)
Covered by Ron Patrick
Ian Kennedy hasn't exactly been dominating lately, but he's still been far more reliable than Tyler Matzek. Matzek is 2-7 with a dreadful 5.32 ERA ahead of today's road showdown with San Diego.

The Padres grabbed another win last night, their fourth straight, and they're now only six games under .500 for the season. Meanwhile, the Rockies possess the MLB's worst record at 46-73.

Throughout this series, Ron has been confident in the Padres and it's paid off so far. He's going right back to San Diego on the run-line for this evening's matchup.

MLB Pick: Padres -1.5 (+135)
