Our league analyst continues his coverage on the White Sox/A’s series on Tuesday. Go inside for all the pertinent details on this game before making your MLB picks.

The White Sox and A’s will play the second of a four game series on Tuesday. The White Sox won the series opener on Monday by a score of 4-3. According to BetOnline and its current MLB odds, the White Sox are a -115 money line favorite, and the posted total is 7.5. These American League rivals met eight times since last season began, the White Sox have gone 6-2, and that includes winning all four games played in Oakland. Six of those eight games went over the total.

Starting Pitchers
Southpaw Jose Quintana will make his 2016 debut start on Tuesday for the White Sox. Quintana had a 5.19 ERA and 1.33 during four spring training game starts. Quintana’s starts in 2015 were much more effective at night compared to during the day. He was 9-5 in 22 starts at night with a stellar 2.50 ERA, and compiled a better than 4:1 strikeout to walk ratio.

Comparing that to his day game numbers of 0-5 in 10 starts with a lofty 5.49 ERA, it clearly validates my point. During four starts last April, Quintana posted a lofty 6.55 ERA, and opposition batters combined to hit an alarming .322. However, Quintana made one start versus Oakland a season ago, and was outstanding during that outing, allowing 1 earned run on 4 hits while walking just 1 in 7.0 innings.

Oakland will send 27 year old righty Chris Bassitt to the mound this evening. Bassitt began the 2015 season as a reliever before being moved to the starting rotation. Bassitt went 1-8 a season ago during 13 starts and five relief appearances. Despite that dismal win/loss record, he had a respectable 3.56 ERA. Bassitt made five starts in spring training action, and had a somewhat lofty 4.66 ERA. The former White Sox hurler will be making his first career appearance against his former team.

Final Thought and Take
The combination of his less than impressive spring training, and last year’s poor start, leaves me with concerns in respect to Jose Quintana. Chris Bassitt had his scheduled start pushed up one day as a result of A’s ace Sonny Gray being a late scratch on Monday. Relative to the current total, I’ll lean toward this game being a high scoring affair for one of my MLB picks.
