Contrasting home-road splits clash Monday night in Baltimore where the Orioles are underdogs on the MLB odds against Corey Kluber and the Cleveland Indians.

MLB Season Record: 33-41 (-8.44)

Something has to give tonight in Baltimore when the Orioles open a 4-game set against the Cleveland Indians. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM (ET) with a dandy pitching matchup between Cleveland’s Corey Kluber and Dylan Bundy of the Orioles. Bookmaker has the Indians favored on a -150 money line and a 9 run total.

Combative trends are colliding in the series as the Indians have been far better on the road than at home while Baltimore is a much better team playing in its own back yard than when traveling. Cleveland, atop the AL Central after sweeping four from the Twins in Minnesota, is two games under .500 at home but 21-14 away from Progressive Field. The Orioles just took 2-of-3 from the Cardinals this weekend in a series that featured 22 homers and now sit 23-11 at Camden Yards with the opposite record away from home.

Bundy In Search Of 3rd Career Win In As Many Tries Vs. Cleveland

Kluber pitched well enough to beat the Dodgers last week, but his offense and bullpen let him down in an eventual 6-4 setback as -135 chalk on the MLB odds. It was his first home start the Tribe failed to win this season, and just the third time Cleveland failed to get the dubya in one of Kluber’s assignments. He has experienced much of the same here in Baltimore the past two years, taking no-decisions in games he pitched well only for the Indians to lose late.

Bundy, on the other hand, is coming off a rather poor effort in Chicago against the White Sox (5 IP, 4 ER) but had plenty of offense behind him to grab his seventh win of the campaign. The bats have not come out in full force his last three home starts, Bundy working 19 innings and allowing only six runs in those affairs only to see the O’s fall twice. He faced the Indians twice last year, once from the ‘pen, and won both times with a combined 6.1 IP and just one unearned run coming plateward.

Rivarly Notes, Mother Nature & A Free Pick

These two met in the first official game at Oriole Park a little more than 25 years ago, and though Baltimore won that contest Cleveland has held its own on the diamond with a level 54-54 all-time record in regular-season matchups. The O’s have started to reassert their home-field advantage recently by sweeping the last two sets in Charm City and winning the last seven on this field, each of those games failing to reach the totals.

Rain is in the forecast, the best chance coming just before the game is set to start with at least a 50% chance continuing into the evening. The weather concerns me, but I’ll run with the series trend and go ‘under’ with my free baseball pick.
