Our MLB betting consultant breaks down an AL East divisional battle tonight between the Yankees and Blue Jays. Can the Yankees bounce back after their winning streak snapped last night?
Yankees and Jays on Tuesday at Rogers Centre in Toronto
The Blue Jays and Yankees will play their second of their three game series on Tuesday at 7:07 PM ET in Toronto. The Blue Jays won the series opener 3-1 on Monday and have now gone 3-1 versus the Yankees in 2015. According to the MLB betting odds at Wagerweb, the Yankees are a -125 money line favorite, and the posted total is 8.5.
The Yankees will go with right-hander Michael Pineda on the mound today. Pineda is 4-1 in his team starts this season with a solid 3.73 ERA. He’s displayed very good form over his last three starts, posting a stellar 2.84 ERA, and struck out 17 while walking just 1. Pineda has made three starts versus Toronto since the beginning of the 2014 MLB campaign, compiling an impressive 2.50 ERA, and struck out 14 while walking only 1.
The Blue Jays Marco Estrada will make his first start of the season on Tuesday. Estrada has pitched only in relief this season, and was extremely effective during those appearances. The 31 year old veteran right-hander posted an excellent 0.84 ERA, and allowed just four hits in 10 2/3 innings pitched. This is the first year with Toronto for Estrada, and he spent the last five seasons as a starter for Milwaukee. Tuesday will be the first ever appearance for Estrada against the New York Yankees.
The Yankees had their six game road winning streak snapped in Monday’s loss. The “Bronx Bombers” are 13-4 in their last seventeen games overall. The bullpen hit a bump in the road last night after being so good to start the season. They led 1-0 heading into the bottom of the eighth last night, and Toronto was able to rally for three runs against Yankees relievers. Despite the hiccup, the bullpen still possesses a terrific 1.86 ERA in 2015. The Yankees are 6-1 under the total in their previous seven games.
The Toronto Blue Jays continued their recent trend of alternating wins and losses on a game to game basis. They’ve gone now gone 4-0 in their four following a loss, and 0-3 in the last three after a win. The Blue Jays received a solid pitching performance on Monday from R.A. Dickey who continued his mastery of the Yankees in recent years. Dickey went 8.0 innings and allowed one earned run on only three hits. Brett Cecil came on in the 9th to earn the save. The win moved the Blue Jays within 3.5 games of the first place Yankees.
MLB Money Line Angle
The Yankees are currently a -125 money line favorite in this game's MLB odds.
The Yankees are coming off a 3-1 divisional loss at Toronto on Monday.
The Yankees starting pitcher Michael Pineda has allowed 2 earned runs or less in each of his last two starts.
Any money line favorite of -125 to -175 that scored one run or less in a divisional loss during their previous game, and has a starting pitcher who allowed two earned runs or less in each of his previous two starts, resulted in that favorite going 44-11 (80%) since the beginning of the 2013 season. I’m giving a lot of credence to this betting angle when making my MLB picks on Tuesday.
MLB Picks: Play the Yankees -125 on the money line over the Blue Jays at Wagerweb.
