Still hanging close to the Dodgers in the NL West race, the MLB odds favor the Diamondbacks to run their win streak to five Wednesday night against the visiting St. Cardinals.

MLB Season Record: 39-44 (-5.14)

Owners of the longest win streak in the NL, the Arizona Diamondbacks look to keep pace in the NL West race Wednesday night when they continue their series with the St. Louis Cardinals. BetOnline believes the streak will grow to five in a row with Arizona favored on a -136 line in the matchup between Zack Godley (3-1, 2.53) and Adam Wainwright (7-5, 5.35) of the Cardinals.

The Diamondbacks rallied from a 5-2 hole in the eighth to pull off a 6-5 win in 10 innings Tuesday night in a game that closed with Arizona short underdogs on the MLB odds. St. Louis entered series 39-29 at Chase, taking six of the last eight on this diamond, and the series opener continued a recent ‘over’ trend for the teams in Phoenix with four of the last five here skipping past the marks.

Godley Facing Cards For 1st Time In Career

If he pitches anything like his other two road starts this month, Wainwright is in for a short outing and the Cardinals are headed towards another loss. In his three home assignments during June, the big righty has toiled a total of 18 innings and allowed just three earned runs; in his two games away from St. Louis, Wainwright has surrendered 18 runs in 5.1 frames. He has made just two appearances at Chase Field since the end of the ’09 campaign and didn’t pitch that well (11.1 IP, 7 ER), yet both ended with Wainwright getting the dubya.

Getting the dubya is something the Diamondbacks are becoming accustomed to with Godley on the mound. Arizona has won seven of his nine starts, including the last five, and three of Godley’s four assignments at home, where the former Tennessee star is pitching to a 2.13 ERA. Tonight is his career cherry vs. the Cardinals, Dexter Fowler (0-for-2) and Jedd Gyorko (1-for-2) the only hitters in the St. Louis lineup who have faced Godley.

Umpire Notes, Mother Nature & A Free Pick

DJ Reyburn should be taking up temporary residence behind the dish tonight, and that should give the Cardinals extra hope since 11 of his previous 15 plate assignments have gone to the visitors. That record includes a perfect 6-0 for visiting clubs priced +110 to +130. Nine of his 15 appearances behind the mask stayed ‘under’ the totals, though his lone plate assignment in Arizona went past the mark.

With a high approaching 110° today, count on Chase Field being buttoned up and for the next few months. I’m going ‘under’ with my free baseball pick.
