Here's our betting preview as the Cardinals & Marlins meet for Game 2 of their series. With great pitching from Garcia in St. Louis, we expect a huge pitchers mismatch taking place tonight.
Cards and Marlins in South Beach on Wednesday
The Marlins will host the Cardinals in the second of a three game series on Wednesday at 7:10 PM ET. The Cardinals overcame a 3-1 deficit on Tuesday to come away with a 4-3 win. My area of focus for today’s game will be geared toward the money line.
The Cardinals will send southpaw Jaime Garcia to the mound today. Garcia has displayed excellent form over his last four starts, posting a microscopic 0.96 ERA, 0.68 WHIP, and compiled a 10:1 strikeout to walk ratio. Unfortunately he received very little run support in those four outings, and the Cardinals went just 1-3. St. Louis scored a combined five runs during that time, and was shutout twice.
Matt Latos has endured a rough beginning with his new club in 2015. Since donning a Marlins uniform he’s gone 4-7 in his team starts with a lofty 5.37 ERA. He’s especially struggled in six starts at home in what’s widely considered as a pitcher friendly park. In those outings he’ has a posted 7.90 ERA.
Cards continuing to Roll
St. Louis has gone 19-8 in their last 27 games, and has an outstanding 46-24 (.657) record this season. If you’re looking for a weakness pertaining to their resume it comes in the power department. The Cardinals have hit just 58 home runs in their first 70 games. However, the pitching staff has performed exceptionally in 2015. They’re allowing just 2.9 runs per game, and their relievers have a collective 2.15 ERA.
Marlins underachieving in 2015
There were high expectations for the Marlins heading into the 2015 MLB campaign. Many experts including myself believed they would be a playoff contender. They could still possibly end up being so, especially in light of the mediocrity that NL East teams has shown so far. However, as the season progresses, the likelihood of this club making a serious run at a playoff spot seems bleak. The Marlins enter today having lost five of their last six games, and are now an extremely disappointing 30-42 (.417) this year. Nearly half of their 60 home runs hit this season have from star slugger Giancarlo Stanton. On a positive note, they’re hitting a stellar .290 as a team in fifteen games versus southpaw starting pitchers like they’ll face today.
These are two teams that are heading in opposite directions. Jaime Garcia will provide a huge edge over Matt Latos today based on their 2015 performance lines. One team (Cardinals) knows how to win, and the other (Marlins) finds ways to lose. I’m going to side with the money line road favorite today for one of my MLB picks. BetOnline provides me with the best price in that regard.
