The Chicago Cubs bounced back in a big way in game four throttling the Los Angeles Dodgers. Today the two teams meet up again in LA for game five before they head back to Chicago. The Cubs have been made a solid road favorite but can the Dodgers win as the underdog?

MLB playoffs: 5-6-1 (three plus money underdog wins)

Chicago Cubs

Jon Lester gets the start for Chicago and comes in with a 2.44 ERA and 1.02 whip while allowing just one earned run in six innings in the first game of the series. Lester is the type of veteran you want on the mound in this situation and this postseason he has been really solid between his starts against San Francisco and Los Angeles allowing just one total earned run over 14 innings. However, both of those starts were in Chicago and his numbers are stifling in the Windy City with a 1.74 ERA with batters hitting just .183 against him. On the road, he has been a little bit more susceptible to getting knocked around with a 3.17 ERA and batters hitting .240 against him. Still, we are talking about a very good veteran pitcher with good postseason experience who is also had not much trouble against the Dodgers this season. In his one start in Los Angeles in the end of August, he was stellar allowing zero earned runs off three hits in six innings. Don't expect the Los Angeles bats to get to him today.

Los Angeles Dodgers

Kenta Maeda gets the call today for Los Angeles and comes in with a 3.48 ERA and 1.14 whip but the Dodgers have lost both of his postseason starts. He just has not been very sharp in this postseason allowing seven total earned runs off of nine hits in just seven innings pitched between taking on Washington at home and Chicago on the road. Despite that rough outing against Washington he still has a solid 3.22 ERA at home with batters hitting .231 against him along with a 7-5 record. I've had a lot of opportunities to watch him pitch over the last few seasons while in Japan and while he has not pitched very well he has the capability of coming in and putting up a lot of zeros. Outside of that last start versus Washington in his five previous home starts, he allowed just 10 total earned runs spanning just over 27 innings. I believe he gives the Dodgers and okay enough chance to win but not enough as far as the line is concerned.

Final Analysis

Oddsmakers have come out making Chicago -156 favorite in this game five. Although I am hesitant about taking favorite at any time this is simply a good spot to go ahead and take a shot with the Cubs. Yesterday we had a good plus money line winner with road underdog Cleveland as our baseball pick, but today I think the smart play is on the road favorite Cubs.
