We’re going to examine the MLB odds for tonight's game between Boston & Oakland. Which one of these struggling teams will come out on top? Read our insightful betting preview article to find out.
Red Sox in the Bay Area to start Three Game Series
The A’s and Red Sox open up a three game series on Monday in Oakland at 10:05 PM ET. According to the MLB betting odds at Wagerweb, Oakland is a -125 money line favorite, and the posted total is 7.5. This will be the first meeting of the season between these teams. Oakland was 4-3 versus Boston in 2014, and those games went 5-1-1 under the total.
The Red Sox will go with veteran right-hander Rick Porcello on the mound tonight. Porcello has displayed very good form over his last three team starts, going 3-0, posting a very good 2.25 ERA, and just shy of a 5:1 strikeout to walk ratio. Porcello was 2-0 in his team starts versus Oakland during the 2014 MLB campaign, and compiled a sparkling 1.23 ERA.
Southpaw Scott Kazmir will get the start for Oakland this evening. Kazmir has gone 3-3 in his six team starts in 2015 with a stellar 2.75 ERA, and an impressive 1.02 WHIP. However, five of those six outings have gone over the total, and he’s allowed four homers in 12.0 innings during his previous two starts.
Red Sox Rumblings
Boston is coming off a 6-3 win at Toronto on Sunday, and was able to avoid a three game sweep at the hands of the Blue Jays. The Red Sox have gone an underwhelming 2-7 during their previous nine games, and are off to an extremely disappointing 13-17 start to the year. Boston is 5-0-1 under the total in the last six, and 9-1-1 under in their previous eleven games. The Red Sox bullpen has really struggled on the road thus far, evidenced by a collective ERA of 5.26, and an awful 1.60 WHIP.
It’s going to be a long Season
The Oakland A’s are off to a terrible12-21 start to the year, and enter today having lost five games in a row. The A’s have gone 16-4-2 over the total in their last twenty-two games. They’ve also gone 12-1 over the total at home in 2015 and those games averaged 10.1 runs combined scored per contest. Similar to Monday’s opponent (Boston), the Oakland bullpen staff has been less than impressive, and their collective ERA of 5.23 surely is indicative of just that.
One team (Oakland) is playing exactly like I thought that they would, and the other (Boston) has been a polar opposite. There’s just too much offensive firepower in the Boston lineup for them not to erupt sooner rather than later. Tonight seems to be a prime spot for that to occur, and I look for Rick Porcello to continue with the very good former he’s displayed in recent outings. I’m going to take the road underdog in this game for one of my MLB picks on Monday.
MLB Pick: Play Boston +115 on the money line over Oakland at Wagerweb.
