Now that the NBA Championship is over, and the Miami Heat weren’t the team that most people thought that they were, we can move away from that. The MLB takes center stage. Here are your betting picks for today.

Kansas City Royals (36-32) at Detroit Tigers (36-29): A Perfect Matchup?
After losing a couple of underdogs yesterday, I’m a little cautious, but we have a very interesting matchup tonight as the Kansas City Royals, who have won 7 straight games, face a Detroit Tigers team that has calmed down as of late.

The Tigers send out Justin Verlander (6-6, 4.61). Verlander was once thought of as the best pitcher in baseball, but now he’s headed in the same direction of Tim Lincecum.

Blue Collar Team
There are no stars on this Royals team. They have been winning with timely hitting and solid pitching. The Royals possess 8 hitters that hit between .245 to .286. Catcher Salvador Perez is currently on a 9 game hitting streak and is hitting .367 with 2 HR and 10 RBI in the month of June while Eric Hosmer is on a 5 game hitting streak and has hit 2 HR and 8 RBI in the last week while hitting .350.

JV
He goes by the nickname of “JV”, but he’s been playing more like the junior varsity pitcher than a star major league pitcher. Like most players, Justin Verlander signed the big contract, and is having a disastrous season. Even on a team that gives him a massive amount of run support, Verlander is just a .500 pitcher with a bloated ERA.

This game is of major importance because the Royals are trying to chase down the Tigers in the division. Each game has a 2 game swing. While Detroit has the better bats with Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez, I’m going to side with the Royals, and the momentum that they have at a very appealing price while Vargas taking the mound.

Colorado Rockies (34-35) at Los Angeles Dodgers (37-34)Appealing Odds
I’m in a bit of a risk taking mood as the Colorado Rockies, who have won 5 straight games, are major underdogs against a Dodgers team that should be much better than 3 games above .500.

The Dodgers send out Hyun-Jin Ryu (7-3, 3.33) to the mound and that appears to be an advantage, but manager Don Mattingly has a habit of giving his pitchers a quick hook even in questionable situations; just look at Zack Greinke’s last start.

The one question with the Rockies is can they hit away from Coors Field? Troy Tulowitzki answered that question pretty well as he went yard in San Francisco yesterday.

For the game, “Tulo” was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 runs batted in. On the season, Tulowitzki now has 18 HR, 44 RBI and is batting .362. If Tulowitzki can be consistent on the road, this spells trouble for the opponent.

Charlie Blackmon
Another player that’s having the season of a lifetime is Rockies leadoff hitter Charlie Blackmon. After a 3 for 5 game yesterday, Blackmon is hitting .307 with 12 HR, 44 RBI, and 12 SB.

Those are awfully good numbers for a leadoff man. In his last 4 games, Blackmon is 9 for 17 with a home run and 4 runs batted in. Colorado appears to be on a major run and at these odds, you have to ride their streak with your MLB pick against a Dodgers team with a ton of superstars, but less wins than expected this season.
