The Dodgers dip down into their bullpen for Saturday’s tilt at home against the Brewers, and we have a free baseball pick for the second game in this weekend set.

After missing opportunities the last two days to close on the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central race, the Milwaukee Brewers take aim at a series-leveling win in Los Angeles on Saturday against the Dodgers. Ross Stripling (3-4, 3.41) will deliver the game’s first pitch at 9:10 PM (ET) with Zach Davies (14-7, 4.09) up next in the Milwaukee rotation, and the Dodgers are decided favorites in the -170s on the MLB odds with 8½ for the scoreboard hurdle.

Kenta Maeda teamed with three relievers to 1-hit the Brew Crew on Friday in LA’s 3-1 victory. The lone Milwaukee hit was a 2nd-inning homer by Domingo Santana and BetOnline closed the Dodgers -175. It was the third win in four matchups for Dave Roberts’ side this year after Los Angeles took 2-of-3 at Miller Park in early-June, and third ‘under’ in the last four collisions at Chavez Ravine.

With Wood On DL, Stripling Steps Into Rotation

Davies only allowed two unearned runs in San Francisco this past Monday, but that was enough to hand him the defeat as Milwaukee’s lineup couldn’t muster any offense in a 2-0 setback. That decision continued a win one, lose one trend in his assignments for the Brewers that started coming out of the all-star break. The 24-year-old blanked the Dodgers for six innings to pick up the dubya at Miller Park back in June, and he tossed seven frames of 1-run baseball in a no-decision at Dodger Stadium last season.

Stripling is taking the rotation slot formerly held by Alex Wood (shoulder) following 35 appearances out of the bullpen, mostly as a long reliever. The former Texas Aggie picked up his first save of the season – and second of his career – this past Monday in Pittsburgh where the Dodgers took a 12-inning affair. He had two scoreless relief outings in Milwaukee back in June, his only experiences against the Brewers, and owns a sparkling 2.76 ERA in nearly 33 frames at Dodger Stadium this season.

Umpire Notes, Mother Nature & A Free Pick

Plate duty will fall to crew chief Gary Cederstrom for Saturday’s clash, the Bismarck, ND native bringing a 14-11 O/U record into the match. Cederstrom’s totals have run in spurts this season, the last three going ‘over’ after the previous seven never made it to the targets. His earlier appearance at Dodger Stadium went ‘over’ the total, and this is his fourth Brewers road game to call in 2017 (2-1 O/U).

It should be a nice evening for baseball in LA, temps in the mid-70s and just a light WSW breeze. This should be a complete bullpen effort for the Dodgers with Stripling only working 50 pitches max, and my free baseball pick will be a run-line play on the home side.
