Game one of the World Series is here with the Chicago Cubs visiting the Cleveland Indians. The Cubs have been made the small road favorite but the Indians have been tough at home all season. Is there any value in backing the home team as your MLB pick?

MLB playoff record: 8-7 (four underdog wins)

Chicago Cubs

Jon Lester gets the game one start for the Cubs and comes in with a 0.86 ERA and 0.76 whips in three postseason starts.  I like that Maddon pulled the trigger on Lester but it was really a no-brainer considering how well he has pitched recently.  Pitching in Cleveland though will be no easy task and Lester's road numbers are a bit worse this season with a 3.17 ERA and batters hitting .240 against him compared to his 1.74 ERA and .183 average at home.  As well Cleveland, as I have mentioned several times this year, is a tremendous home hitting team and against lefties this year they have a solid .268 average.  The Cubs have been lighting up the scoreboard recently but they might have a bit more trouble today facing a good home pitcher and a relief staff that has been dominant throughout the playoffs.

Cleveland Indians

Corey Kluber takes the mound for Cleveland and comes in with a 0.98 ERA and 1.09 whip this postseason.  Like Lester, he has been really dominant although he lost his last start in Toronto allowing two earned runs off of four hits in five innings.  What has me liking his chances today to keep the Cubs in check is how dominant he has been at home in his two starts this postseason allowing zero earned runs off of nine hits in just over 13 innings of work.  If he can give the Tribe five or six good innings then they can hand the ball off to their pen in Andrew Miller and Cody Allen who both have been tough lately.  All of Cleveland's offensive statistics go well up at home and although they are facing a very tough pitcher I think any plus money is good value on them tonight.

Final Analysis

Oddsmakers have the Indians at a little plus money across the board so check the best sportsbooks before making your bet. For my MLB pick, I am going to take the Indians at home like at 5 Dimes +104.  This game is essentially a coin toss but there is value on the home team in my opinion.
