The post-season situation is becoming much clearer as the season comes to a close. Time to make our MLB picks for Wednesday.

Where the wild card situation is concerned, it’s a 3 team race between Tampa Bay, Texas, and Cleveland; one team will be out in the cold.

Let’s take a look at the MLB odds for today's slate of games for today and see what it beholds.

Detroit Tigers (92-66) at Minnesota Twins (66-91)

Building Momentum

Max Scherzer (20-3, 3.00) finally got the monkey off his back as he won his elusive 20th game of the season in his last outing in a 12-5 victory over the Chicago White Sox. Scherzer still isn’t back to his old form, but this is the time in which he can warm up, build some momentum, and get ready for when the importance of the games start to escalate; the post season.

Scherzer allowed 3 runs on 6 hits in 6 innings in his last outing and there’s room for improvement as the competition will be greater in the post-season. Tonight, he faces a Minnesota Twins team that’s just looking to finish up the season on a positive note. Detroit is coming off of a 4-2 victory over the Twins yesterday in which Austin Jackson and Torii Hunter both picked up 3 hits and Victor Martinez hit his 14th home run of the season in a 4 run 4th inning for the Tigers.

A September To Remember

Martinez is one of the best hitting catchers in the game and the month of September has been very kind to him. He’s currently on an 11-game hitting streak and has hit .325 in the month of September with 3 HR and 10 RBI. The Tigers offense was already deep enough, but with Martinez hitting like this at the latter stage of the season, they become even more dangerous. Martinez has provided great support and made up the difference since the Cabrera injury.

Whether the game has great importance or not, Detroit has a superior 20-win pitcher in Max Scherzer starting tonight and Twins starter, Kevin Correia (9-12, 4.29), doesn’t have the manpower offensively to stop the Tigers and is also suspect as a starter. Detroit should win this game easily, so consider them for your baseball picks

MLB Pick: Take the Tigers on the run line, -1.5 (-130) at William Hill

Boston Red Sox (95-63) at Colorado Rockies (72-86)

Pitcher’s Duel At Coors Field?

After yesterday’s 8 -3 Colorado win over Boston, you could expect a high total for this game, especially at a stadium like Coors Field. Even without Carlos Gonzalez, the Rockies possess some deadly hitters in Troy Tulowitzki and Michael Cuddyer. Colorado hit 3 home runs yesterday in a game that meant very little to the Red Sox.

Tonight we might see something different as two top-level pitchers go at it as Jake Peavy (11-5, 4.02) takes the ball for the Sox and is opposed by Jhoulys Chacin (14-9, 3.21).

You look at the Rockies and see that they play in a home run hitting-friendly park and rank 3rd in the league in batting average (.271) and 8th in the league in runs and wonder why are they a losing team? Cargo has been out for some time, but they were still a losing team when he played this season.

Their starting pitching is their downfall, but in tonight’s game, it’s an even matchup as Chacin has been nothing short of spectacular. Chacin hasn’t allowed more than 4 runs in a start since June 6th; Now that’s a consistent pitcher!

The total is always placed high in the confines of Coors Field as it is tonight at 9.5 runs. I’m going to buy a half-run and take the ‘Under’ for my sports picks.
