Stand by for MLB Picks of the Day for Wednesday, it's gonna be a bumpy ride.

Los Angeles Angels (53-65) at New York Yankees (61-57)

This is a risky game, but if you like the Yankees here, you’ll find appealing betting odds with them at home and against a Los Angeles Angels that, surprisingly, has looked like they’re ready to pack it in.

The only deterrent from taking the Yankees in this game is that Jered Weaver (7-5, 2.87) will be starting for the Halos as he faces a gamed Ivan Nova (5-4, 2.92).

Back To His Old Form

I don’t think that the Angels can even be considered for a wild card position unless they ran off like 10 games in a row. This isn’t likely to happen. Just the same, they have one of the best pitchers in baseball in Jered Weaver, when starting healthy.

Weaver has pitched 9 quality starts in his last 10 outings and hasn’t given up more than 4 runs in his last 10 outings. The Yankees will have to show the same ability offensively that they did last night in order to have any chance against Weaver and possibly get into the Angels bullpen. Don’t expect Weaver to lose this game.

The Angels are coming off of a 14-7 loss to New York, but the game wasn’t even that close if not for later Mike Trout home run. New York picked up 2 home runs out of Alfonso Soriano. Soriano either strikes out or hits homers; he's a great acquisition from Chicago.

Beasting

This game could come down to the pitching of Ivan Nova. Nova is no slouch. This is a pitcher that had a 16-4 record in 2011 and is quite capable of shutting down an opposing offense. Nova has been that number 2 guy that New York has been looking for. He’s pitched a perfect 9 quality outings out of 9 attempts when going 5 innings or more.

Nova should have a much better record than 5-4. He goes deep into games and is a strike out machine. In his last 3 outings, Nova has pitched 21 innings and allowed 2 runs while striking out 23 batters. This is a fairly even matchup at the pitcher’s spot even with Weaver’s career body of work taken into consideration.

Playoffs?

Don’t look now, but the Yankees are just 5.5 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays for the final wild card spot in the AL and are on 3-game winning streak. Look at a New York win here, for your sports picks.

MLB Pick: Bet the Yankees -125 at Bet365

Pittsburgh Pirates (70-48) at St. Louis Cardinals (68-50)

This is a real grudge match as these two teams have been going back and forth, fighting for supremacy in the National League Central Division. Pittsburgh has broken their 2 decade curse of losing seasons while the Cardinals have been like a roller coaster: in and out of first place.

Liriano vs. Miller

Both of these teams have respectable offenses, but when I think of this matchup, I immediately think ‘Under’ the total. I’m very good with totals and the last time that I bought half a run, it payed off. I’m going to do the same here and bump the total from 7 runs to 7.5 runs at -135.

Francisco Liriano had his ERA destroyed in one start from 2.02 to 2.83 as he gave up 10 runs and 12 hits in 2 1/3 innings in a loss to Colorado. Colorado didn’t score a run after the 2nd inning and this is totally the manager’s fault; Liriano should’ve been yanked much earlier.

Look for a bounce back performance from the left-hander. Except for that one start, he’s basically been brilliant and this game is very important.

The Cards start the ever reliable Shelby Miller (11-7, 2.89). Miller has tailed off as of late. He’s consistent, but won’t give more than 6 innings per outing. He’s lucky to have guys like Carpenter, Beltran, Holiday, and Craig in the lineup. Considering the magnitude of this game and the fact that Pittsburgh’s offense can’t compare to the Cardinals, back Miller in your betting picks, as I expect him to hold down the fort in a low scoring affair.
