The American League Wild Card Situation is one of the messiest that has ever been experienced with 6 teams competing for the postseason.

While in the National League, Washington is the only team in doubt and basically has to run the table. Let’s see how this affects our betting picks.

Check out today's Daily Baseball Odds & Betting Lines Report for an early edge in Monday's games!

Monday Recap

I hit the Texas-Tampa Bay matchup yesterday and am going to go right back to the well tonight at the Trop for my sports picks.

Texas Rangers (81-68) at Tampa Bay Rays (82-67)

Total Collapse

Except for the New York Mets a few years back, I’ve never seen a team go into such a tailspin as the Texas Rangers at the worst possible time of the season. Not only has Texas worked their way out of the American League West Divisional lead, they’re coming off of a disappointing loss to the Rays and are almost being forced out of a wild card spot. The Rangers have lost 7 consecutive games and psychologically, this is a must-win situation for them.

Back to the Starting Role

Rangers starter Alex Ogando (6-4, 3.23) has been switching back and forth from starter to reliever and he seemed to do well as a starter. Ogando has a favorable matchup against the Rays Jeremy Hellickson (11-8, 5.04). Hellickson has been nothing to write home about as of late, but does sport a 5-2 record at home. Hellickson has received a great deal of run support from the Rays’ offense. He’s had 1 quality outing in his last 8 appearances. That said, the Rays won’t get more than 5 or 6 innings out of him at best. This is a real opportunity for Texas to capitalize and the bettors to cash in with their MLB betting picks.

Alex Rios

Texas doesn’t know where to look for the offense lately, but right fielder, Alex Rios, has been one of their reliable hitters in their offense. Rios has hit safely in 7 out of his last 8 games and sports a .333 batting average with 3 HR and 8 RBI in the month of September. Look for Rios or Ian Kinsler to step up in a crucial spot tonight for Texas.

Tampa isn’t that much of a favorite due to the poor pitching of Hellickson. Look for Texas and Ogando to break the streak and remain in the wild card race.

MLB Pick: Take Texas +115 on the money line at Bet365

New York Yankees (79-71) at Toronto Blue Jays (68-81)

Boston might have been kind to Mariano Rivera this past weekend, but they might have ended his career prematurely as they destroyed the Yankees in their last two series, putting New York’s hopes for a wild card spot in jeopardy.

Luckily for New York, they get to face a team that they’ve beat up on in the Toronto Blue Jays, but it won’t be so easy as R.A. Dickey looks to finally crack the .500 mark on the season for the first time.

Old vs. Old

This game should be a grudge match as 41 year-old Andy Pettitte (10-9, 4.04) takes on 38 year-old R.A. Dickey (12-12, 4.36). Pettitte is well past his prime, but has pitched well as of late and is known as a big money pitcher. Dickey had a lousy start to the season, but has gradually improved as the season has gone along. Pettitte has clearly been the better pitcher as of late, facing the likes of Boston and Baltimore on multiple occasions.

In his last 7 starts, Andy hasn’t allowed more than 3 runs in a game and that’s against the best of the best. He also hasn’t lost a game since August 5th. Look for Pettitte to come up big in a game that the Yankees desperately need. They are currently 2.5 games behind Texas and 3 games behind Baltimore and one of those teams will lose tonight.

No particular Yankee has been red hot as of late, but Alfonso Soriano and Robinson Cano both seem to have a flair for the dramatics. R.A. Dickey is a tough veteran, but if Pettitte can give 6 to 7 strong innings, New York should pull this game out as more incentive is attached to it for them as opposed to the Jays.

The MLB odds are laughable as the Yankees are the slightest of underdogs. Let’s jump on New York quickly.
