The New York Yankees head to Comerica Park in Detroit on Friday afternoon to open up a 3-game series with Miguel Cabrera and the Detroit Tigers. Will the Yankees beat the MLB odds?

The Weather outside is supposed to be frightful, so does that make the Under an automatic play for our MLB picks? Not so fast here, as the lineups are fierce here, and after playing the NL’s Florida Marlins, the Tigers can use their DH and that means Víctor Martínez, he of the two Pinch Hit Homers in 2 Plate Appearances this year. Toss in a suddenly Robinson Cano-like Starlin Castro for the Yankees, and there should just be too many great hitters in this game, including eventual all-time Home Run leader Alex Rodriguez and Tigers hitting machine Miguel Cabrera.

Odds Overview
The New York Yankees (1-1) are scheduled to send right-hander Luis Severino to the mound on Friday afternoon to face righty Jordan Zimmermann and the Detroit Tigers (2-0) in Game 1 of this MLB Opening Week 3-game series at Comerica Park in Detroit. Offshore Oddsmakers in Antigua have made the host Tigers and Zimmermann slight-115 favorites with the visiting Yankees priced at +105 as the small Road dogs (Sportsbetting.ag) and the game’s Total (Runs) set at 8 (Sportsbetting.ag). The Run Line odds see the Tigers -1½ +172 and the Yankees at +1½ -193 (Sportsbetting.ag) hile the First 5 Innings and First 5 Inning Total marketplaces hadn’t opened yet as publishing time as the Yankees (Eovaldi) we’re waiting to close out their Opening Season series with the Houston Astros (Fiers) at Yankee Stadium on Thursday ( NYY -104, 8½, Pinnacle). Tigers legend Kirk Gibson is slated to throw out the game’s ceremonial first pitch.

New York Yankees
The New York Yankees (1-1) and Manager Joe Girardi head to The Motor City for the weekend for their first Road Trip of the new 2016 MLB Regular Season, and with Cold in the forecast, the Bronx Bombers ordered extra Pine Tar sticks for their bats for the series as the upper Mideastern and Northeastern quarter of the continental United States continues to suffer through some frigid Winter-like Weather early into Spring. New York went into Game 3 of that Astros series at Yankee stadium—the game is currently in a Weather Delay—needing a Win, and Girardi’s Starting Lineup was: CF Jacoby Ellsbury, LF Brett Gardner, DH Alex Rodriguez, 1B Mark Teixeira, C Brian McCann, RF Carlos Beltran, 3B Chase Headley, 2B Starlin Castro and SS Didi Gregorius with aforementioned RHP Nathan Eovaldi on the bump in the Yankees 4th Starting Pitchers spot in the Rotation and obviously making his first Start of the season.

The Yankees (20/1 to win World Series, Ladbrokes) lost their Season Opener to Houston 5-3 in The House That Ruth Built on Tuesday and then bounced back with a 16-6 win on Wednesday as Offseason acquiree Starlin Castro (Cubs) continued his torrid start with 4 more Hits and he raised he 2-game RBI total to 7. Castro, Teixeira and Beltran all homered for New York (17 Hits) which had 6-run, 36-minute Bottom of the 1st Inning which sent Houston Starter Collin McHugh (0-1) to the showers early. The Cubs and General Manager Theo Epstein sent the highly-touted Castro to The Bronx to make room for highly-touted SS Addison Russell.

Detroit Tigers
The Detroit Tigers (33/1 to win World Series, Ladbrokes) and Manager Brad Ausmus are off to a pleasant start, going 2-0 against the Marlins in Miami, winning 8-7 in 11 Innings on Opening Day (April 5) and 7-3 on Wednesday—handing Marlins Ace Jose fernandez his Home Loss in the L27 starts—behind Aníbal Sánchez. In that last outing, Tigers Manager Ausmus put these nine names on his Lineup Card: 2B Ian Kinsler, LF Justin Upton, 1B Miguel Cabrera, RF JD Martinez, 3B Nick Castellanos, C Jarrod Saltalamacchia, SS Jose Iglesias, CF Anthony Gose with Sánchez on the Hill. Saltalamacchia, released by the Florida Marlins, went 2-for-5 with 4 RBI, Cabrera went 2-for4 and Martinez bashed a 2-run Home Run. The Tigers (20/1  to win World Series, Ladbrokes) will need the Offense to return to maximum production this season and with guys like Kinsler, Upton, Iglesias, Martinez, Saltalamacchia and Cabrera, Detroit should give opposing Pitchers fits.

Series Trends, Weather Forecast, Pitchers Report Card, Thoughts and Game Picks
The Weather Channel Forecast for Detroit for Friday afternoon calls for Partly Cloudy conditions in the Morning with periods of Showers later in the day, a High of 43°, 58% Humidity with Winds W at 10-15 mph and there a 90% chance of Rain in Motown and some Snow may get mixed in so not exactly ideal conditions for your Home Opener against the most famous franchise in the history of the league. But very Detroit-like in Spring. So, The Tigers will be going from playing in 77° weather in Miami to possible Snow in Motown, at least some shock even if Detroit is your home and you have Space Heaters in the Dugout for the game-playing millionaires. (And free gum.) The Under is 5-0 in the Yankees L5 vs. the AL Central and 7-3 in the L10 New York games against a Starter with a WHIP under 1.15 and the Under is 4-1 the L5 meetings here in Detroit as well as 4-1 in the L5 Severino Starts both on the Road and on Grass.

But, the Over is 7-3-1 in the L11 Game 1’s of a Detroit Tigers series, the Over is 45-22-7 in the L74 Tigers games against a Starter with a WHIP under 1.15 and the Over is a strong 6-1 ATS the L7 Tigers games following an Off day. And with DH/1B Víctor Martínez (2-2, 2 PH HRs, 3 RBI) slated to get his first start, Severino will be facing a nasty lineup chock full o’bashers like Víctor Martínez, JD Martínez, former MVP Cabrera, Castellanos, Saltalamacchia, Upton and the hot-starting leadoff stud Kinsler (.455). So even with the Chilly weather and Home Opener and situation, the lean here has to be with the Over as both lineups could go Over the Opening Total (8) themselves with this muscular potential Lineups. C’mon man. Even if chemically enhanced, you may have the MLB All-Time Home Run hitter on one side (A-Rod) and maybe the best hitter in MLB over the last decade on the other (Cabrera). Runs will be scored, Rain, Sleet or Snow. Just like your Mailman.

The Yankees are 5-1 ATS the L6 meetings in this series and 22-year-old Starter Severino will be making his 12th career Start but will be facing the Tigers for the first time while former Washington Nationals P Zimmermann will be the first Starting Pitcher making his Tigers debut at Comerica Park since Ausmus took over managing from cigarette-smoking, franchise-legend Jim Leyland. The predicted Cold and Sleety weather shouldn’t affect Zimmerman as much as he grew up in Wisconsin and residents from America’s Dairyland have 11.3% (Wisconsin) cheese in their bloodstream, thickening it for such occasions. In L10 meetings between these two teams, the Yankees are 6-4 with the Totals split at 5-5 with the Bronx Bombers going 2-1 in The Big Apple and 7 of the L10 games being played here in Detroit (NYY 4-3 in those 7). The L3 in the series—all in the Bronx—went Over.

But that was in June when it’s warm and in New York City. Here, expect a close game, but one with some extra base hits from the usual suspects, with The Martínez Boys probably good for 3-4 runs themselves and A-Rod (100/1 to win MLB Regular Season Home Run Title, Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook), Teixeira 100/1 MLB odds to win MLB Regular Season Home Run Title, Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook), Beltran and now the fuel-injected Castro—he just homered again Friday—should be able to grind out at least 4 for the Bronx Bombers.

This will be an interesting game and will tell much about both teams but don’t make the Weather your main handicapping thing here as Weather changes over the span of a 3-hour MLB game and these guys are used to playing in crappy conditions, as the Yankees are starting to (on Thursday afternoon) as this is written. The bottom line here is that the two Starting Pitchers just might not be tough enough to go through these talented lineups 2 to 3 times without getting shelled.

The Yankees will send CC Sabathia to the Mound against Mike Pelfrey in Game 2 of the series on Saturday (1:10 p.m p.m. EDT/10:10 a.m. PDT) with Masahiro Tanaka hurling for New York against Justin Verlander in Sunday’s Game 3 (ESPN, WatchESPN, 8 p.m. EDT/5 p.m. PDT).

Predicted Final Score: Tigers 5 Yankees 4
