With a very limited slate on tap for Thursday night, we see if we can separate the winners from the losers.

There are only 3 MLB games tonight, but this won’t be a problem as we focus in on the edge for our MLB Picks of the Day.

Detroit Tigers (67-45) at Cleveland Indians (62-52)

Riding Scherzer

Although Matt Harvey appears to have the best mechanics in the game as a pitcher, Max Scherzer has had one of the best seasons that we’ve seen in a long time.

Scherzer has now lowered his ERA to under 3.00 and has taken 16 out of 17 decisions; this is near perfect. To make things worse for Tigers’ opponents, the Tigers have won 11 games in a row. It hasn’t been all Miguel Cabrera as he’s missed some games, but he did go deep last night. Can Cleveland stop this machine?

McAllister To the Rescue?

Starter, Zach McAllister (4-6, 3.47) will have the unenviable task of dealing with this machine. On any given night, any different Tiger can get hot, from Austin Jackson to Alex Avila.

The record doesn’t show it, but McAllister has pitched relatively well. He’s produced 7 quality outings out of his last 10 starts. This is pitcher that usually can go 6 to 7 innings and give up just 2 to 3 runs. This will be no cakewalk for the Tigers offense.

In last night’s game, Cleveland took Detroit to the limit, but the streak prevailed in 14 innings, 6-5 as the Tigers outscored the Indians 2-1 in the 14th inning alone. Prince Fielder, who has gone through an enormous slump (.259 BA), got the winning hit with a two-run double to seal the deal.

Odds are inconsistent at the moment, so look around for the best numbers you can find before settling on your sports picks.

MLB Pick: Take Detroit at -155 on the money line at William Hill

Boston Red Sox (70-46) at Kansas City (58-53)

While the Kansas City Royals have really picked themselves up in the 2nd half of the season, the Red Sox have even went a step further. This team just refuses to lose as they scored 3 runs in the 9th inning of last night’s game against Houston, to snatch away the “W” from the “Stros”, 7-5.

Clear Advantage In this Game

A pitcher like Bruce Chen (4-0, 2.03), will have a very difficult time against a team like the Sox. I witnessed Chen’s last start against the Mets and he was brilliant. The problem is that although he has great accuracy, he has no velocity to his pitches. In essence, he’s throwing “meatballs”.

A team like the Red Sox with the like of Ellsbury, Ortiz, and Pedroia, will tee-off on pitching like this. Chen is taylor-made for the Red Sox hard hitting offense.

For their careers, Jacoby Ellsbury is 3 for 8 with 1 HR and 2 RBI against Chen, Pedroia is 5 for 11 with 1 HR and 2 RBI, Ortiz is 7 for 25 with 1 HR and 8 RBI off of Chen. Big Papi is also coming off of a 4 for 5 performance on Wednesday.

With Jon Lester (10-6, 4.52) starting, the Red Sox are a betting favorite. These are favorable baseball odds as you should take the superior Red Sox in this game.

MLB Pick: Bet the BoSox -120 at Bet365

Good luck, everyone!
