The Boston Red Sox have been struggling a little bit the past couple of weeks as they head into Seattle today to take on the Mariners. Both teams have playoff aspirations, Who will be our MLB Pick?

Boston Red Sox vs Seattle Mariners

MLB odds have come out making Seattle the small home favorite at most places. For my MLB pick I'm going to back the Boston Red Sox like at BetDSI +114. The Red Sox had a great comeback win yesterday versus the Los Angeles Angels so they should come into this game with a little bit of momentum despite the fact they been playing less than stellar the last couple of weeks. Seattle, on the other hand, is traveling all the way back from Chicago after playing the late game there so this could be a tough spot for them coming off of some travel.

Boston Red Sox
Eduardo Rodriguez gets the start for Boston with a 6.51 ERA and 1.62 whip but has allowed just six total earned runs in his last three starts. The young left-hander has had some really tough games this year and has been giving up the long ball at a pretty high rate. In his last nine starts he has given up at least one home run in every game but what really hurt his overall numbers was a game at Tampa Bay at the end of June where he allowed nine earned runs in just two innings. Outside that performance, he has been better than his numbers actually look and in his last three games he has been much better, as mentioned. What could help him today is the fact that Seattle is traveling back from Chicago which puts them in a tough spot and that Seattle's offensive numbers drop against left-handers.

The value for this game comes from that aspect but also of course at the extremely good lineup that Boston presents. We don't have to delve too much into their statistics as the Red Sox rank first in pretty much every major category across the board. I feel like they got the monkey off their back last night with a big ninth-inning comeback so they should feel pretty good about themselves coming into this contest.

Seattle Mariners
James Paxton takes the mound for Seattle with a 4.27 ERA and 1.50 whip but a 4.82 ERA at home. Unlike Rodriguez Paxton has been good at limiting home runs allowing just three in his last 10 starts. But like Rodriguez he has been knocked around a bit this season. He is coming off two decent road starts in which he allowed four total earned runs over 12 innings against the Blue Jays and Pirates but in his last home start versus Houston he allowed six earned runs on nine hits in just five innings. Paxton throws hard but he doesn't strike out guys at a really high rate and his really high whip is attributed to batters hitting .374 against him on balls in play.

Despite their recent struggles expect Boston to score.  At the plate, Seattle ranks around the middle of the league in most offensive numbers highlighted by a .762 OPS which ranks eighth in the major leagues. However, against left-handers that OPS drops to .729 and their batting average goes from .258 to .247 which ranks 13th in the American League.
