Brandon McCarthy for the Los Angeles Dodgers seems to be back and healthy as they take on the Tampa Bay Rays today at home. Our Capper provides his expert MLB pick.

MLB odds have set the total for this game 8 at most places with a bit of higher juice on the under. For my MLB pick, I'm going to back under the total of 7.5 like at BetOnline -115. Even though the under is a heavier price I like for both of these pitchers to come out and keep the damage to a minimum.

Tampa Bay Rays (+1.5 -140 at Bookmaker)
Matt Moore will get the start for Tampa Bay and comes in with a 4.31 ERA and 1.27 whip with Tampa Bay hitting just .240 on the season which ranks 28th in the major leagues. Offensively Tampa Bay has been consistently one of the worst teams in the major leagues as they rank 26th in both runs and hits per game. They have some decent power numbers with in OPS of .724 but that drops to .702 against right-handers. In fact, all of their offensive statistics drop against right-handed pitchers and they rank last in the American League when facing them in batting average and on-base percentage, don't expect them to have a lot of quality at-bats against McCarthy. Moore I believe is better than his numbers and has a good chance to bounce back from that horrible start against Los Angeles earlier this season where he allowed seven earned runs in four innings pitched. As well, in his last five starts he has allowed just nine total earned runs over a span of 34 innings. Expect him to come in today and pitch 6 to 7 solid innings and keep the Dodgers to a low run total.

Los Angeles Dodgers (-1.5 +120 at Heritage)
In his four starts in July Brandon McCarthy has a 1.61 ERA and 0.72 whip allowing a total of nine hits in 22 innings. He also has allowed just four earned runs in those four games and in two of those he blanked the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks. Today he gets to face one of the weaker hitting teams in all of baseball at home so I expect him to continue his nice start of the season after coming back from injury. At the plate, although the Dodgers are 56-44, they have not been a very explosive offensive team. Currently, they rank 19th in runs per game and 22nd in both hits per game and OPS. Surprisingly they knocked Moore around in their one opportunity this season but against left-handers they actually have been one of the worst hitting teams in all of baseball. Los Angeles ranks last in the National League against southpaws hitting just .218, and second to last with a .645 OPS. Although they've scored quite a few runs the last few games combined don't expect that to continue today.
