Colorado goes after the four-game series sweep against San Francisco this afternoon. If you are betting baseball, you have to like the Rockies chances when using the broom today.

Given the difference in the two teams, one might expect the Rockies to be a larger favorite, but we will explain in the - Pitching Matchup - why that is not the case.

Pitching Matchup - Blach vs. Chatwood

Ty Blach (4-4, 4.26 ERA) is serviceable back of the rotation starter and if San Francisco was more like the team they were from 2010 to 2016, he would probably work out fine. However, that is not who the Giants are these days. Blach like many pitchers has more problems on the road and he is hit much harder away from AT&T Park, with 6.04 ERA and .325 batting average allowed, compared to 3.02 and .224 BA. Having to face a Colorado lineup that is raking at home in this series will be no treat.

At this point, it seems like Tyler Chatwood (6-7, 4.16) would rather pitch on two days rest on the road than have his turn in the rotation come up at Coors Field. While some pitchers might not sleep well before a start, Chatwood probably has cold sweats thinking about taking the mound in Denver. The same issues the right-hander has had in the past are continuing, with a 7.03 ERA at Coors (2.41 ERA on the road) and vast chasm in batting average given up at .301 vs. .183 outside of Colorado.

More Offense on the Way Sunday?

Finally, the San Francisco offense is showing a pulse and they have scored eight or more in four of their past nine games, including 18 in this series. The catalyst has been Dennard Span as the leadoff man and for a change, Giants hitters are driving in runs with teammates on base. With Chatwood's home woes, San Fran should be able to score.

If you like others have been wondering when the Rockies would start hitting at home, discard those thoughts. In Colorado's last five contests at a mile high, they have touched home plate 44 times. When you are scoring runs at that volume, it is team effort.

Betting Odds, Head to Head and Bullpen Numbers

The MLB odds have the Rockies are -155 home faves with a total of 11.5. Colorado is now 9-1 this season against San Francisco and 16-9 at Coors since 2015, with the OVER 13-11-1. The Giants bullpen has been making progress and is up to 5th in the NL in ERA, while the Rockies reside in 8th. The Rocks however have the best save percentage in baseball at 86.6 percent, which makes them a solid choice for MLB picks.

The Winner Is...

Make no mistake, backing Chatwood at home could send your pulse racing, especially at this price. Nevertheless, you have to think about how the Rockies are ripping Giants pitchers, how pathetic San Francisco is on the road at 12-26 and that Chatwood is 7-3 against San Fran with a fine 2.81 ERA as a starter.
