Oddsmakers might have underestimated the pitching matchup today between Bauer and Quintana, and out handicapper calls them up on it. Read on as he analyzes the MLB odds and provides his pick.

The playoffs are just around the corner and the Cleveland Indians look to be a part of it. Today they take on the Chicago White Sox in Chicago in what I think is an underrated pitching matchup. Both of these pitchers I believe have the capability of keeping the run totals down so have oddsmakers set the total a bit too high?

Cleveland Indians
Trevor Bauer gets the start for Cleveland and comes in with a 3.86 ERA and 1.29 whip along with a solid 3.13 road ERA this season. He has not been good in his last couple of starts allowing eight earned runs in just 13 innings but in his five previous starts to these last two, he was solid allowing a total of just nine earned runs in over 30 innings of work. Against the White Sox, he has been particularly good this season and comes in with a 1.00 ERA and 0.78 whip allowing just one earned run in nine innings against them in a couple appearances. Although he's been less than stellar in his last couple of starts on the road this year he has been very good and I expect him to be good today. At the plate Cleveland, as I've mentioned several times before, are simply a different monster offensively on the road than they are at home. Their batting average drops almost 50 points when they travel and they go from scoring close to six runs per game in Cleveland to just around four on the road. Today they have a tough matchup and I look for their production to be limited.

Chicago White Sox
José Quintana takes the mound for Chicago and comes in with a 3.13 ERA and 1.13 whip along with a 2.92 ERA at home this season with batters hitting just .226 against him. This has been arguably his best season as a major leaguer and against Cleveland, he has been really good allowing just seven total earned runs in almost 20 innings of work in three appearances for a 3.20 ERA and 1.17 whip. His last time facing this same Indians club was in Cleveland and he was solid allowing just two earned runs over seven innings and he has been steady against them in every outing. Although the White Sox are well out of the playoffs he should get up and pitch a good game against a team that is heading to the postseason. Offensively the White Sox have been swinging the bat decently well over their last 10 games but statistically, they remain just average across the board. In their last five games they are averaging over five runs per contest but due to their lack of success against Bauer this season I don't expect for them to do a lot of damage today.

MLB odds
Oddsmakers have come out with a total of 8.5 across the board with a little bit of higher juice on the under at most places. That makes sense considering this underrated pitching matchup and for my MLB pick, I'm going to back under the total of 8.5 like at Pinnacle sports -113. They're also some decent odds out there at some other reputable books so get the best odds that you can. Look for this game to be more of a pitcher's duel than people might anticipate.
