After facing the best pitcher in baseball in Clayton Kershaw, the Chicago Cubs, must dust themselves off and get ready for battle in game 3 of the NLCS against the Los Angeles Dodgers as they have now lost home field advantage. Has the curse once again caught up with them or will they come back strong in game 3? Find out as we explore this game more in detail and provide the betting public with our baseball pick.

According to 5 Dimes, where you can get a 50% Free Play Bonus, the Cubs are a -113 betting favorite and the total for the game is listed at 7.5. This is yet another tough pitching matchup as last year's NL Cy Young Award Winner, Jake Arrieta, squares off against Rich Hill. Hill had played a pivotal role in the San Francisco series coming off of little rest. Can he reproduce the magic against the best team in the majors? This is a Chicago Cubs team that won 103 games in the MLB Regular Season and have been the odds favorites since the beginning of the season to win the World Series.

Are the Cubs Really Cursed?

I'm not ready to go into that "curse mode" just yet. The Dodgers did beat the Cubs at Wrigley Field, but Clayton Kershaw is unhittable when he's at his best. That said, the Dodgers can't send out Kershaw for every start. The only thing to be concerned about from a Chicago Cubs perspective is that these type of series are elimination series and the Dodgers might send Kershaw out whenever necessary and if he continues to be unhittable, this can create a problem for the Cubbies.

A Big Spot For Arrieta

He might have gone 18-8 with a 3.10 ERA during the regular season, but Jake Arrieta certainly wasn't as dominant as he was last season and was very inconsistent during the latter stages of the 2016 Regular Season.

In the month of September, Arrieta was 2-3 with a 4.60 ERA. In the playoffs, he did bounce back with a 6 inning effort in a 6-5 loss against the San Francisco Giants in which Arrieta allowed 2 runs on 6 hits. The Cubs are a special team due to the balance of their pitching and their offense. The offense will need to step up if Arrieta is off of his game. I expect Arrieta to pitch well, but this is a pitcher that's capable of getting rocked, especially against a team that's coming into this series with a ton of confidence in the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Javier Baez

It's easy to point out the Cubs two best hitters in Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo as Bryant has a real shot at the NL MVP Award and along with Dexter Fowler and Ben Zobrist, have carried this team all season long, but the Chicago Cubs hottest hitter at the moment is Javier Baez.

Along with saving runs with his glove, Baez has an 8 game hitting streak going, dating back to the regular season, and has been consistently reliable in the playoffs thus far. In the playoffs, Baez is hitting  .391 with 1 HR and 3 RBI in 23 at-bats. He also has an OBP% of .417. In hard fought games such as this, it only takes a one or two run difference to win a ball game and Javier Baez could be the difference as he's shown the ability to consistently get on base and providing his Cubs teammates with the opportunity of knocking him in.

For the Dodgers, rookie of the year candidate Corey Seager, has hit just .133 in the playoffs, but the Dodgers possess a fairly deep lineup offensively. Justin Turner has the ability to go deep, but he possesses an amazing .533 OBP% in 21 at bats in the post-season and Adrian Gonazlez (2 HR, 5 RBI) is the backbone of this Dodgers team and is a tough out for any opposing pitcher.

Final Analysis

The pressure is totally on the Cubs in this game and I expect Jake Arrieta to come up big in a spot like this. It's also very comforting for Arrieta to know that he has hitters such as Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo supporting him offensively. The Chicago Cubs are the real deal this season and this game can be a turning point in this series, back them as your MLB pick.
