It’s a new week in MLB, so here are Monday morning's Picks of the Day.

I actually promised you 2 wins on Sunday and delivered (went 3-0 for the day); let’s see if we can catch lightning in a bottle twice with our MLB picks.

Milwaukee Brewers (32-48) at Washington Nationals (41-40)

Destruction at CitiField

Washington is coming off of a 13-2 destruction of the New York Mets. The Nats are really starting to gain some momentum as they made easy work of young Zack Wheeler and middle-man Brandon Lyon.

The Nationals lit up Lyon for 5 extra base hits in 2/3 innings of work. Manager, Davey Johnson, thought that the comeback victory over the Mets in which Matt Harvey started was the highlight of the season. The manager was wrong; this was the highlight of the season and possibly a sign of things to come for the Nats.

Enter Jordan Zimmerman…

Things couldn’t be better; even Kurt Suzuki hit a home run and had a dominant game. Now, their best pitcher, Jordan Zimmerman (11-3, 2.28), takes the mound in a mismatch against a Milwaukee Brewers team that has absolutely one of the worst pitching staffs in the majors.

Zimmerman has pitched 8 quality starts in his last 10 attempts. In his last 2 starts, he’s allowed 2 earned runs in 15 innings. Zimmerman is also a career 2-0 against the Brewers with a 1.42 ERA in 2 career starts.

It will be up to Jean Segura and Carlos Gomez to spark this Brewers offense, but will it be enough.

Lots of Nationals hitters gained some much needed confidence on the weekend; Ian Desmond, Jayson Werth, and Denard Span to name a few. MLB odds suggest you look for Washington to be sharp in this game.

MLB Pick:
Washington -190 at William Hill

Before settling on your picks, don't forget to take a look at our new Daily Pitching Report!

The New York Mets couldn’t come into this game on more of a downer. The Washington Nationals embarrassed them at CitiField and the pitching staff, aside from Matt Harvey, can’t be feeling too good about themselves.

The Arizona Diamondbacks come into this game in destruction mode also. They’ve lost 3 consecutive games in a rather weak National League West Division and their lead is just 2 game over the Colorado Rockies. The D’Backs could really use a “W” in a game like this against a train wreck like the Mets.

1st Win of the Season

We’ve entered the month of July and starter Shawn Marcum (1-9, 5.08) has finally picked up his first victory of the season after a dominant 8 inning shutout performance against the Chicago White Sox. In his last 10 starts, Marcum has only received 4 runs of run support or more in a game just one time.

This can’t be blamed on David Wright. Wright has practically carried this team with his bat and glove. Wright is 14 for 38 in his last 10 games and the Mets will need his support tonight.

Paul Goldschmidt

The Diamondbacks have relied on their slugger all season and although he’s been a bit of a power outage, Goldy is a threat every time that he steps to the plate. Goldschmidt hasn’t hit a home run since June 21st and has just 2 RBI in that period of time.

You have two slumping teams coming into this game and CitiField won’t make it much easier on either offense. Take the Mets as Shawn Marcum looks for win number 2 on the season.
