After their first pre-season exhibition in the Cactus League, the Seattle Mariners look like they will be in a good spot this season. Join our handicapper as he offers up his MLB betting prospects for the Mariners.

Seattle – Projected Win Total Un81 wins – Fourth in the AL West

The signing of Robinson Cano has caused a lot of excitement in Seattle, in a city already happy from the Super Bowl. Cano made a sharp debut with a sharp single and a walk (my bad on video I said he had two hits) and his presence will not only improve the offense but the defense also.

Kyle Seager is a rock at third base, but what the Mariners really need is a big season from first basemen Justin Smoak to make the offense go and cover Cano in the batting order.

The M’s are keeping their fingers crossed Dustin Ackley can do an Alex Gordon and become the hitter they expected when they drafted him, making the move from the infield to a corner outfielder. The additions of Logan Morrison and Corey Hart should add offense and a much improved bench.

The pitching is more problematic. After Felix Hernandez and Hisashi Iwakuma there is potential from the other starters, but with much uncertainty. Erasmo Ramirez should be the No. 3 pitcher, but the bullpen has arms and question marks.

Game Notes – Cano looked great in debut and Ramirez had two solid innings as the starter. Morrison had two hits as the DH and looked very comfortable at the dish.

MLB Season Prospects – I will see each team one more time and offer final verdict with MLB picks versus the sportsbooks projections.
