Paul Goldschmidt is Tim Lincecum’s worst nightmare, which will lead to the Arizona Diamondbacks picking up an easy win over the San Francisco Giants Friday night. Let’s take a closer look at the MLB betting odds for this National League West matchup.

Fallen flat
San Francisco is mired in a five-game losing streak, which includes a 7-6 setback to the Chicago White Sox as +136 road underdogs Wednesday, while going 'over' the betting total for the ninth time in 10 contests. The Giants have compiled a disappointing 5.62 ERA over their last 10 affairs, but have won seven of 11 games as road underdogs of +100 to +125 during the 2014 campaign.

It’s important to point out that the franchise has put together a 34-37 record in the month of June the last two-plus seasons.

Golden situation
Arizona has dropped seven of its last 10 games, but it has a big opportunity to make some noise offensively in tonight’s series opener, considering first baseman Paul Goldschmidt is hitting .345 with five home runs and 14 RBIs in his last 16 contests. The Diamondbacks are expecting him to improve upon those recent numbers, considering he’s a .542 career hitter versus Friday’s opposing starter.

MLB handicappers will find that the franchise is 16-20 versus division opponents, with the 'over' going 24-11-1 in those 36 opportunities.

Giants starting pitcher Tim Lincecum (5-4, 4.81 ERA) has watched the squad alternate wins and losses over his last four trips to the mound, but he didn’t factor into the decision of a 7-4 home defeat to the Colorado Rockies a week ago. The right-hander is 2-2 with a 6.84 ERA in five road appearances, with opposing hitters batting .313 against him (.239 at home).

Lincecum has registered a 0-1 record and 9.90 ERA in two starts versus the Diamondbacks this season.

Diamondbacks starting pitcher Josh Collmenter (4-4, 4.05 ERA) has suffered back-to-back defeats due to allowing 10 runs (nine earned) and 15 hits over 13 innings of work in that span. The right-hander is 3-2 with a 3.61 ERA in 10 home appearances (seven starts)—surrendering seven home runs in 47.1 combined frames.

In 11 lifetime appearances versus the Giants, Collmenter has compiled a 4-1 record and 3.98 ERA.

I’m going to recommend that readers play the total as one of their MLB picks, as the 'over' has cashed in four of Lincecum’s last five starts in this rivalry.
