You have two teams at the opposite end of the spectrum. The New York Yankees finally get a decent pitching performance from C.C. Sabathia only to have Mariano Rivera give the game away while the Detroit Tigers are on a 12 game winning streak and have a 7 game lead over Cleveland in the American League Central Division.
Detroit is coming off of Max Scherzer’s win against Cleveland, his 17th of the season. Scherzer labored at times, but the Tigers offense do what they always do and that’s score runs to support the pitcher.
We’ll see how super that strikeout pitcher Ivan Nova really is when he faces a loaded Tigers lineup at Yankee Stadium.
The Yankees are just 1 game over .500 and still have a chance at the 2nd wild card spot in the American League as they trail by 7 games with 49 games to go. Time is running out and Nova has to produce a near perfect start.
Alfonso Soriano had a huge performance against Chicago in which he went deep and it wasn’t enough. This game is up to Nova as the Tigers have 5 to 6 starters on their teams that are offensive threats as they displayed against the Tribe.
In a Nova vs. Porcello matchup, New York has the edge and at +107 in the MLB betting odds, I expect them to put an end to the Detroit Tigers 12 game winning streak as this is a must win situation for the Bombers and a decent price at home.
MLB Pick: Pick New York +103 at Bet365

Two Decades of Losing
This certainly is the Pirates year as they’re about to snap a losing streak that extends for two decades. Not only that, the Pirates hold a 4 game lead over the St.Louis Cardinals in the National League Central Division and are 26 games over .500. Could they win it all?
We should see a low scoring affair as Francisco Liriano (12-4, 2.02) takes the ball for the Bucs and he’ll be opposed by Jorge De La Rosa (10-6, 3.31) for the Rockies.
The Rockies have a wicked offense behind the hitting of Tulowitzki, Cargo, and Cuddyer, but Liriano has had a Cy Young-like season. Liriano has the 2nd best ERA in the National League next to Clayton Kershaw. A lot of teams like Pittsburgh and L.A. have turned it around this season and pitching is a major reason why. We've said it before, but it bears repeating: “Good pitching wins baseball games.”
Liriano has pitched 8 quality starts out of his last 9 starts overall. If you take that one poor start out against the Reds, he’s given up 2 runs twice, 1 runs 3 times, and has shutout the opposition 3 times; that’s as good as it gets, especially when you have an offense with Andrew McCutchen (16 HR, 65 RBI, .313, 24 SB) and Pedro Alvarez (27 HR and 74 RBI) to back it up.
Little Man, Large Production
One thing that Andrew McCutchen can never be accused of and that’s taking PED’s. He’s a 5-tool player and the face of the Pirates.
If McCutchen stays healthy and the pitching continues to stop opposing offenses, this team will be a major contender of the present and the future.
The Rockies look to bounce back from a poor 2-1 effort in a loss against the Mets. This was kind of expected as Cuddyer was the only member of “The Big 3” to start the ball game. For your sports picks, look for Pittsburgh to make it win number 6 in a row as this team is having their best season since 1979-1980
MLB Pick: Bet on Pittsburgh -135 at William Hill
Good luck, everyone!
