The Toronto Blue Jays are starting to play a lot better baseball recently and yesterday they were swinging the bats extremely well. Today they take on Cincinnati for some more interleague action and we are going to take a look at the total for this game. Will we see more quality at-bats today?

Cincinnati Reds

Asher Wojciechowski takes the mound for Cincinnati and comes in with a 2.25 ERA and 1.00 whip, however he holds a career 6.20 ERA and 1.67 whip in seven games pitched as a major leaguer. It is hard for me to think that he is going to come in and shut the door against a solid Toronto lineup that has seemed to have turned a corner. At the plate Cincinnati struggled a little bit yesterday by expect for them to break out today as they remain one of the best statistically hitting teams in baseball. Currently Cincinnati ranks fourth in OPS, and sixth in both batting average and runs per game. As well, they rank second in the league in hits per game and slugging percentage. Up and down the lineup they’ve been extremely good and I believe they should be able to put up more than they did yesterday.

 Toronto Blue Jays

J.A. Happ will get the start for Toronto after coming off the 10 day disabled list and comes in with a 4.50 ERA and 1.13 whip. Last season he was extremely good but he started out this year being less than stellar allowing eight earned runs in his 16 innings of work spanning over three starts prior to injury. He is getting up there in years just a little bit as far as pitchers are concerned and I think the veteran will struggle just a little bit today against a solid hitting Cincinnati lineup. Offensively Toronto had a lot of really nice at-bats yesterday putting up plenty of runs in a hurry and I expect more of that from them today. Although statistically they rank in the bottom third of the league in most categories over the past couple of weeks they are starting to swing the bats better and I expect for that momentum to carry into today.

MLB Odds

Oddsmakers have set a really high 9.5 total for the runs in this contest and for my MLB pick, I’m going to back the over. Just like yesterday I expect a lot of good at-bats and for plenty runs to be scored today at the Rogers Center.
