Ross Benjamin breaks down a pair of starting pitching battles tonight in the games between the Royals/Diamondbacks & the Dodgers/Angels. Read this insightful sports betting article for details.

Kansas City Royals (Guthrie) vs. Arizona Diamondbacks (Nuno) 9:40 PM ET
The Royals starter Jeremy Guthrie comes off a strong start at Oakland last Friday in which he allowed 0 earned runs, 3-hits, and struck out 6 while walking just 2. However, his whole body of work over his last 5-outings has been less than impressive as evidenced by a large 7.71 ERA and 1.91 WHIP during that span. He’s had pretty even performance splits in 2014 going 6-5 against the money at home (4.71 ERA), and an identical 6-5 on the road (4.28 ERA). He’s seen just 7 of his last 26-starts (26.9%) on the road go over the total, and 12 of his last 44-starts (27.3%) as an underdog have gone over the total.

The Diamondbacks starter Vidal Nuno has encountered some bad luck since coming over in a trade with the Yankees. He’s gone 0-5 against the money with Arizona despite posting a very good 3.07 ERA and 1.06 WHIP. Nuno was 6-8 against the money in 2014 as a member of the New York Yankees.

Note: The home plate umpire for tonight’s game is slated to be Tony Randazzo. He’s seen just 1 of his last 12 go over the total when he’s calling balls and strikes.

I like the way Nuno has pitched in his short time with Arizona, and he’s due to be rewarded for his efforts, even if the MLB odds aren't favoring him yet. Even though Guthrie comes off an impressive start in his last outing, he’s been on the erratic side for the most part this season. My betting edge goes to Nuno over Guthrie.

Los Angeles Dodgers (Ryu) vs. Los Angeles Angels (Wilson) 7:05 PM ET
The Dodgers starter Hyun-Jin Ryu has been rock solid on the road this season going 8-3 against the money with a stellar 2.89 ERA. He enters tonight in stellar form over his last 4-starts going a perfect 4-0 against the money with a 2.42 ERA, a 0.96 WHIP, and a better than 9:1 strikeout to walk ratio. The Dodgers southpaw has seen just 1 of his last 10-starts on the road go over the total.

The Angels starter C.J. Wilson went a combined 61-32 (decision record) the last 4-years with the Angels and Rangers. The veteran southpaw hasn’t experienced the same types of successes in 2014 going 10-10 against the money with a lofty 4.74 ERA. As a matter of fact, he’s been in awful form over his last 5-starts posting a large 9.38 ERA, a mammoth 2.61 WHIP, and allowed a staggering 6 home runs while last just a total of 18.0 innings in those appearances.

There’s no beating around the bush for me in this one. I give a decisive MLB betting advantage to Ryu of the Dodgers over Wilson of the Angels in this game.
