Our resident MLB analyst previews Sunday’s game between the Dodgers and Mets. Go inside to read this highly informative article which includes his MLB pick on this affair.

LA Dodgers (Kershaw) vs. NY Mets (Colon)
The Dodgers and Mets play the finale of a three game weekend series on Sunday night at Citi Field. The opening pitch is slated for 8:05 PM ET, and the game will be televised nationally by ESPN. These teams split the first two games of the series with New York winning 6-5 on Friday, and Los Angeles rebounded yesterday for a 9-1 victory. Both games easily went over the total. These teams also met in a four game series at Dodger Stadium earlier this month, and split that set as well. Current MLB Odds at Heritage indicates that the Dodgers are a large -211 money line favorite, and the posted total is 6.5.

Dominating and Remarkable
You just can’t possibly pitch any better than Clayton Kershaw has during his first ten starts of this 2016 MLB campaign. The Dodgers have gone 9-1 with Kershaw as their starter, and their southpaw ace has been a major contributor to those successful results. During those outings, Kershaw has posted a domineering 1.48 ERA, 0.66 WHIP, and struck out 95 batters in 79.0 innings pitched. Kershaw has already recorded three complete game shutouts this year, and one of those came at Dodger Stadium while facing the Mets. Believe it or not, the 28-year-old southpaw has posted even more impressive numbers over his last three starts, posting a microscopic 0.35 ERA with 31 strikeouts versus only 2 walks. He’s made five starts versus the Mets since 2015, all of those games stayed under the total, and Kershaw compiled a commanding 1.16 ERA while striking out 50 in 38 2/3 innings.

43-Year-Old Colon Continues to Grind
The ageless Bartolo Colon gets the nod on Sunday for the Mets. Colon has been more than respectable in four home starts this season, posting a stellar 2.66 ERA during those outings. He’s coming off an outstanding performance in his last start which came against Washington. During that appearance he allowed 1 earned run on 5 hits in a 7-1 Mets win.

Light Hitting Teams
Neither of these teams will wow you when gazing at their 2016 offensive numbers. The Dodgers have an uninspiring .311 OBP and .682 OPS thus far. The Mets average just 3.9 runs scored per game, and have compiled a very poor .303 OBP this year.

Final Take and Pick
Neither one of these starting pitchers have been prone to surrendering home runs, and both have exhibited impeccable control. Kershaw has allowed 3 home runs and walked just 5 in 79.0 innings. Those are absolutely eye popping numbers! Colon has given up just 6 home runs and walked only 11 during 52 2/3 innings pitched. Although Colon’s pitching stats in those specific categories are pale in comparison to Kershaw, they’re awfully impressive nonetheless. This game has all the earmarks of a low scoring affair, and one of my Sunday MLB Picks will reflect exactly that.
