Our MLB consultant provides us with a betting preview on Saturday’s game between Miami and Colorado. Join us in reading this highly informative article which culminates with an MLB pick.

Miami Marlins (Cashner) vs. Colorado Rockies (Bettis)
Miami and Colorado will play the second of a three-game series on Saturday night at Coors Field in Denver. Miami won the series opener on Friday 5-3. The Marlins had been 1-48 entering Friday's game when trailing after 8.0 innings. Miami was able to rally from a 3-1 deficit last night by scoring 4 runs in the 9th. Miami has now gone 4-1 against Colorado this season and is 13-6 versus the Rockies since 2014. Four of the five meetings between these teams in 2016 have stayed under the total.

Miami is currently tied with St. Louis for the final National League wild card spot. Despite last night’s loss, Colorado is 11-4 over its last 15 games and is just 4.0 games behind both St. Louis and Miami in the wild card race.

Starting Pitchers
Andrew Cashner will make his second start in a Marlins uniform since coming over in last week’s trade from San Diego. He turned in a successful Miami debut last Sunday during a Marlins win over St. Louis. Cashner allowed only 1 earned run on 4 hits in 6.0 innings of work. As a matter of fact, the right-handed hurler has exhibited stellar form over his previous four starts, proven by a 2.28 ERA and 0.76 WHIP over that course of time.

Colorado will go with Chad Bettis on the mound this evening. Bettis has also been in good form in recent starts, compiling a 2.89 ERA and 1.13 WHIP during his prior three outings. This will be his first career start against Miami.

Rockies Adversity
Colorado sustained a huge blow a week ago Saturday when shortstop Trevor Story was lost for the season. Story suffered a torn ligament in his left thumb that required surgery. At the time of his injury, the 23-year-old was leading the National League in home runs with 27, and also had 72 runs batted in. In his absence, Colorado is planning to use a platoon of Daniel Descalso, Christhian Adames, and Rafael Ynoa. The Rockies won their first four games after losing Story and have since lost two in a row. As is so often the case, teams have short term success following a season-ending injury to a star player. Nevertheless, sustaining that momentum over the long haul becomes a difficult a task to overcome in the majority of instances.

Money Line Betting Angle
Even though Miami came back to win last night, their bullpen has blown saves in each of their last two games. During Wednesday’s 5-4 loss at Wrigley Field, closer A.J. Ramos squandered a 4-2 lead by allowing 3 runs in the 9th inning. Last night, Miami led 1-0 heading into the bottom of the 8th, and then setup man Fernando Rodney allowed 3 runs to relinquish that lead as well. Miami starting pitcher Andrew Cashner owns a 4.53 ERA in seventeen starts this season. Current MLB betting odds at Sportsinteraction has Miami as a +115 money line underdog. All this aforementioned data produces an outstanding betting angle and one in which I’ll heavily factor in when making my Saturday MLB picks.

Any National League team (Marlins) that’s +125 to -125 on the money line, possessing a starting pitcher (Cashner) that has an ERA of 4.20 to 4.70, and is coming off two straight games in which their bullpen has blown a save, resulted in those teams going 29-11 (72.5%) since 1997.
