José Berrios has come out pitching well for Minnesota and today will be no difference when they take on the Baltimore. Chris Tillman gets the start for Baltimore and we’re going look at the total for this contest as I expect both pitchers to put zeros.

Minnesota Twins

Last season Berrios really struggled for Minnesota but the expectations for him have always been high. It seems like he is living up to those expectations so far in his two games pitched with a solid 0.59 ERA and 0.39 whip allowing just one earned run in four hits in 15 innings of work. Of course, his numbers won’t hold up as the season continues but I think this puts some pretty good value to go ahead and back him today.

On the season Minnesota ranks 11th in the major leagues in OPS, but what I like is their propensity to get on base with a .336 percentage which ranks them fifth. This is stemmed from the fact they rank first in the major leagues and walks per game. On top of that, they are also hitting respectable .251 as a team and averaging 4.66 runs per game both of which rank them just a bit better than most teams this season. All that being said though, they are facing a pitcher today that has had some good success against them and I think they will struggle to score a decent amount of runs, especially one that simply does not allow a lot of free passes.

Baltimore Orioles

After being injured for the first part of the season Chris Tillman gets the start for Baltimore and comes in with a respectable 3.52 ERA and 1.50 whip in his three starts this season. Tillman is a reliable veteran and he has allowed just six earned runs in his last two games total. What I like about backing him today to keep the run totals low also is that he has had some good success against Minnesota over the past three seasons holding a 2.63 ERA three appearances with the Twins hitting just .208 against him in that span.

Offensively Baltimore has been okay this season but they do strike out a lot averaging 8.79 per game which ranks them 25th in the major leagues. Although they have some nice power numbers I don’t think they are going to light up the scoreboard today and for this game to remain a little bit lower scoring than oddsmakers anticipate.

Oddsmakers have come out with a total of nine for this contest and for my MLB pick, I think that’s a little bit too much so I will back the under. Tillman is a solid veteran and Berrios is starting to show why Minnesota is so high on him.
