Mining the Diamond connected on its two picks yesterday and now we turn our attention to the pitching matchups, historical trends and MLB odds for Wednesday night’s baseball action. Let’s cash two more this afternoon!

White Sox (20-24, +1.3 units) vs. Diamondbacks (28-19, +9.7 units)
  • Arizona is 10-2 (+8.4 Units) at home when the money line is +125 to -125 this season.

  • Arizona is 20-8 (+11.7 Units) in home games this season.

  • Arizona is 102-70 (+26.3 Units) when playing against a team with a losing record over the last three seasons.

  • Chicago is 7-14 (-6.2 units) in May games this season.

  • Chicago is 7-13 (-2.9 units) when playing against a team with a winning record this season.

  • Chicago is 11-19 (-3.9 units) against right-handed starters this season.

The Snakes have now won seven of their last eight games including their last two over their American League guests in this series. Arizona is gunning for the series sweep this afternoon and we say they will get it. The oddsmakers have made this a relative flip of the coin based solely on the pitching matchup. The White Sox have their ace Jose Quintana starting while the D-Backs give a spot start to their long reliever Randall Delgado (1-0, 4.05 ERA) who has allowed just one run over his last seven relief appearances. This seems like a very short price to lay in our MLB pick despite the pitching “mismatch” because Arizona has a decent enough bullpen to rescue Delagado if he should falter.

Twins (24-18, +6.8 units) vs. Orioles (25-19, +4.8 units)
  • Baltimore is 5-7 (-2.8) in day games this season.

  • Baltimore is 10-11 (-1.7 units) in May games this season.

  • Baltimore’s starter Chris Tillman is 0-4 when starting against the Twins with an ERA of 4.50 and a WHIP of 1.59.

  • Minnesota is 13-5 (+10.4 Units) in road games this season.

  • Minnesota is 9-3 (+7.9 Units) in road games against right-handed starters this season.

  • Minnesota is 10-4 (+7.3 units) on the road when the money line is +125 to -125 this season.

The Orioles have lost their last three, and two of those setbacks were courtesy of the Twins. Today they have Chris Tillman chucking and his results against Minnesota throughout his career have been far from fruitful with a 0-4 record and a 4.50 ERA. The Twins will send Jose Berrios, who has been dazzling over his last three appearances with a 3-0 mark and a sterling 0.59 ERA and a 0.39 WHIP, to the hill to meet the Orioles in today’s 12:30 ET start. The Twins are 10-5 (+8.2 units) against Baltimore over the last three seasons and we will ride their unhittable, as of late, starter and the betting trends against their opponents this afternoon.
