We did the splits yesterday but fortunately came out ahead as we had two underdogs and the Mets victory over the Reds gave us the juice needed to add slightly to our bankroll. Let’s review the MLB odds for Thursday’s slate and keep cashing!

Dodgers (91-40, +29.9 Units) at Diamondbacks (75-58, +19.1 Units)
  • Arizona is 26-10 (+15.4 Units) at home when the total is 9 to 9.5 this season.
  • Arizona is 12-5 (+7.7 Units) when playing on Thursday this season.
  • Arizona is 44-30 (+11.6 Units) after a win this season.
  • Los Angeles is 18-30 (-13.3 Units) on the road when the money line is +125 to -125 over the last two seasons.
  • Los Angeles is 9-11 (-6.1 Units) on the road when the total is 9 to 9.5 this season.
  • Los Angeles has averaged 2.86 runs per game over their last seven contests.

The Dodgers may have a stranglehold on the NL West but their closest rivals will go for the sweep of this three-game series today and get it. Big Blue has averaged only two-plus runs per game over their last seven and now faces the ace of the Arizona staff in veteran right-hander Zack Greinke. Of course the Dodgers will have a solid hurler of their own on the mound in Kent Maeda, who tossed his first quality start since August 1st, last Friday in a 3-1 win against the Brewers.

That said, the Diamondbacks have been coming alive as they enter the homestretch of the season, winning six straight (including two consecutive wins over LA) and eight of their last nine while Los Angeles has stumbled into a four-game freefall. Let’s grab the hot home team with the better pitcher against a Dodgers’ team whose injuries may finally be taking its toll.

 Nationals (81-51, +9.1 Units) at Brewers (69-64, +14.1 Units)
  • Milwaukee is 44-32 (+22.6 Units) against left-handed starters over the last two seasons.
  • Milwaukee is 23-19 (+10.5 Units) when playing against a team with a winning record this season.
  • Milwaukee is 44-40 (+10.5 Units) in night games this season.
  • Washington is 26-26 (-9.3 Units) when playing on Thursday over the last three seasons.
  • Washington is 39-40 (-17.3 Units) after three or more consecutive wins the last three seasons.
  • Washington is 44-47 (-7.9 Units) when playing against a team with a winning record in the second half of the season over the last three seasons.

Both starting pitchers today have been on fire recently with Gio Gonzalez of the Nationals pitching his way to a 3-0 mark and a 0.93 ERA while Milwaukee’s Zach Davies is 2-1 with a 1.37 ERA. However, Davies has had three career starts versus Washington and his team record is 3-0 (+4.4 Units) with an ERA of 2.33 and a WHIP of 1.24. As good as Gonzalez has been recently he did allow a pair of runs on six hits in his last outing against the Mets and is 2-3 when starting against the Brewers with an ERA of 4.57 and a WHIP of 1.41.

Davies won’t have to contend with Washington’s superstar Bryce Harper (knee) and that could tip the balance in a contest of two pitchers that are currently in a deep groove. Davies pitched perhaps his finest game of the season in his last outing when he blanked the league-leading Dodgers and held them to just three hits over seven impressive innings. The MLB odds makers installed the Brewers as +160 road dogs in that one and Davies contributed mightily to Milwaukee’s 3-0 victory. Back the Brew Crew in your MLB picks tonight over the Nats.
