Yesterday was a split which wrapped up a profitable week at Mining the Diamond. Let’s review the MLB odds for Monday and keep cashing those tickets!

Diamondbacks (87-63, +19.2 Units) at Padres (66-83, +5.1 Units)
  • San Diego is 3-8 (-3.8 Units) as a home underdog of +125 to +175 this season.
  • San Diego is 6-9 (-1.5 Units) when playing on Monday this season.
  • San Diego is 17-24 (-1.8 Units) against left-handed starters this season.
  • Arizona is 8-1 (+8.2 Units) in road games in September games this season.
  • Arizona is 42-28 (+12.8 Units) against division opponents this season.
  • Arizona is 65-48 (+11.4 Units) against right-handed starters this season.

The Padres rebounded with a 4-3 win over the Rockies yesterday after dropping five straight and getting smashed 16-0 on Saturday. However, wins have been few and far between for San Diego this season and they are 6-10 against their divisional rivals from the desert this season. We expect the Diamondbacks to be full of venom after seeing their four-game winning streak halted yesterday as they failed to sweep the Giants in their 7-2 setback in San Francisco.

Patrick Corbin, Arizona’s starter, has had two impressive performances sandwiched around one clunker which just happened to be against the Padres. We suspect that will be all the incentive he needs to get it right today and come out with a victory. Back the Snakes in your MLB picks tonight.

Twins (78-71, +10.4 Units) at Yankees (82-67, -3.1 Units)
  • New York is 20-20 (-3.3 Units) when playing against a team with a winning record in the second half of the season
  • New York’s starter Jaime Garcia is 1-5 at home with a 4.31 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP.
  • Minnesota is 53-40 (+14.9 Units) in night games this season.
  • Minnesota is 34-31 (+15.6 Units) in road games after a win over the last two seasons.
  • Minnesota is 14-9 (+10.8 Units) as a road underdog of +125 to +175 this season.

The Twins are 2-1 versus the Yankees this season and begin this three-game set hot off the heels of a 13-7 victory over Toronto yesterday. But their starting pitcher this evening, Ervin Santana, is not only entering this game with a terrific performance in his last outing when he blanked the Padres through six innings en route to a 3-1 win but has these trends working in his favor:

  • Ervin Santana’s team record is 10-4 (+7.4 Units) in road games this season.
  • Ervin Santana’s team record is 6-0 (+7.4 Units) on the road when the total is 9 to 9.5 this season.

This is the proverbial value play as the MLB odds are simply too high on the Bombers due to the fact that high profile teams contending for a playoff spot attract plenty of love from the public. Call us contrarians but we are going to grab the all that juice that the squares are more than willing to lay on a matchup that is far more equal than the oddsmakers would lead you to believe. Bet the Twins on the highway this evening.
