The last few days have been dismal after a solid run last week. Let’s get back on track with our top two MLB picks for Friday night.

Dodgers (102-57, +6.8 Units) at Rockies (86-73, +12.8 Units)

  • Colorado is 40-28 (+12.8 Units) at home when the money line is +125 to -125 over the last two seasons.
  • Colorado is 33-27 (+15.1 Units) when playing against a team with a winning record this season.
  • Colorado is 41-32 (+12.6 Units) against division opponents this season.
  • Los Angeles is 11-16 (-22.0 Units) in September games this season.
  • Los Angeles is 16-23 (-14.2 Units) in road games when playing with a day off over the last three seasons.
  • Los Angeles is 3-8 (-9.3 Units) in road games after shutting out their opponent this season.

The Dodgers have wrapped up the National League’s best record and have little else to do other than keeping their players healthy. Meanwhile, the Rockies are battling the Brewers for the final wildcard spot and should pull out all the stops in their last series of the season. LA’s Hyun-Jin Ryu has a few trends working against him in this one. The Japanese import’s team record is 2-7 (-7.3 Units) against division opponents and 1-9 (-10.1 Units) when playing against a team with a winning record this season. Let’s look for the Rox to win a pivotal game for them and what amounts to an exhibition game for Big Blue. Back Colorado in your MLB picks tonight.

Diamondbacks (92-67, +18.3 Units) at Royals (78-81, +2.0 Units)

  • Kansas City is 17-23 (-15.8 Units) in home games in September games over the last three seasons.
  • Kansas City is 52-56 (-1.6 Units) n night games this season.
  • Kansas City is 12-19 (-4.0 Units) when playing against a team with a winning record in the second half of the season.
  • Arizona is 65-46 (+11.7 Units) in night games this season.
  • Arizona is 68-50 (+11.7 Units) against right-handed starters this season.
  • Arizona is 56-35 (+17.1 Units) against the money line after a win this season.

The MLB odds on this one have the visitors as a fairly good-sized favorite, but that’s not even enough according to our power ratings. Zack Greinke is coming off his worst outing of the season for Arizona and that gives us more reason to back one of the game’s premier pitchers. He will want to atone for his dismal showing and will be opposed by KC’s Ian Kennedy, who is 0-3 over his last three starts with a 6.75 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP. The Royals have dropped three of their last five and are making vacation plans while the Snakes have won five of their last seven with their eyes set on the postseason. Let’s back the boys from the desert.

Free MLB Pick: Diamondbacks -148
