Mining the Diamond had both the American League and under the posted total in our MLB picks for Tuesday night's Midsummer Classic. Let's cap two more winners as baseball's second half commences.

Dodgers (61-29, +18.8 Units) at Marlins (41-46, -3.0 Units)

* Miami is 1-6 (-5.1 Units) after three or more consecutive wins this season.

* Miami is 90-107 (-23.5 Units) against right-handed starters over the last two seasons.

* Miami is 38-48 (-20.1 Units) in home games in night games over the last two seasons.

* Los Angeles is 12-2 (+9.2 Units) when playing on Friday this season.

* Los Angeles is 18-8 (+7.4 Units) when the total is 8 to 8.5 this season.

* Los Angeles is 25-9 (+10.8 Units) when playing against a team with a losing record this season.

The MLB odds show the Dodgers as slight road favorites in this opener of a three-game set with the Marlins. Yet, the disparity between these clubs is far greater than the mere 20 cents reflected in the line which is why Big Blue is included as one of our two MLB picks to kick off the second half of the season.

Los Angeles has reeled off six straight and has won nine of their last 10 games. The Dodgers are 3-1 versus Miami this season and Brandon McCarthy, tonight's starting pitcher for LA, is 2-0 with an ERA of 0.60 and a WHIP of 0.60 when starting against the Marlins. Miami's starter Daniel Straily has pitched well recently but is 1-1 with a 4.26 ERA in his two starts against LA. Let's back the better team with the longer winning streak and grab LA minus the price.

Indians (47-40, -18.4 Units) at Athletics (39-50, -9.6 Units)

* Oakland is 60-79 (-29.1 Units) in home games against right-handed starters over the last three seasons.

* Oakland is 19-31 (-12.8 Units) after a loss this season.

* Oakland is 29-40 (-10.3 Units) against right-handed starters this season.

* Cleveland is 26-16 (+4.4 Units) in road games this season.

* Cleveland is 38-21 (+14.5 Units) on the road when the total is 8 to 8.5 over the last two seasons.

* Cleveland's starter Carlos Carrasco's team record is 21-5 (+14.5 Units) in night road games over the last three seasons.

Cleveland is in sole possession of first-place in the AL Central while the Oakland is mired in the AL West cellar with a dismal 39-50 record to start baseball's second half. The Indians are 3-1 versus the A's this season and Cleveland's starter, Carlos Carrasco, is 3-0 when starting against Oakland with an ERA of 1.45 and a WHIP of 0.61. As stated above Carrasco owns a dazzling 21-5 (+14.5 Units) team record in night road contests over the last three seasons.

The Tribe has outscored the Athletics 23-10 in four games this season, including an 8-0 romp on June 1st. Oakland's starter tonight, Sonny Gray, has allowed 14 earned runs in his last two appearances against Cleveland and here he is again tonight, facing a team that has absolutely scorched him in the past. Let's back the better team with history on its side and bet the road chalk in this one.
