Yesterday the Diamondbacks were included in our MLB picks for a second consecutive night and cashed on both occasions as substantial road dogs over the free-falling LA Dodgers. Let’s go hunting for more winners tonight!

Nationals (84-54, +9.2 Units) at Marlins (67-71, -1.9 Units)
  • Miami is 59-77 (-25.2 Units) against division opponents over the last two seasons.
  • Miami is 50-57 (-18.1 Units) in home games in night games over the last two seasons.
  • Miami is 20-31 (-7.8 Units) when playing against a team with a winning record this season.
  • Washington is 44-27 (+13.8 Units) in road games this season.
  • Washington is 59-27 (+24.8 Units) in night games this season.
  • Washington is 28-15 (+12.0 Units) in road games after a win this season.

The visiting Nationals are looking to sweep this three-game set in Miami tonight and will send 31-year-old southpaw Gio Gonzalez to the hill to button it up. Gonzalez is 9-3 when starting against the Marlins with an ERA of 1.94 and a WHIP of 1.03 while his team is 12-6 (+3.3 Units) against Miami this season. The Washington hurler has been sensational against the Fish this year, with a 3-0 record in his four starts against Miami and a stellar ERA of 1.28.

The Nats have a stranglehold on the NL East and still have an outside shot at catching the Dodgers for the best record in the National League. That could be crucial if they meet in the NLCS and home field advantage comes into play. The Marlins are serving up a rookie named Dillon Peters who has pitched just seven innings in the bigs. But in fairness, it was seven innings of scoreless ball against the Phillies in his debut. I’ll take my chances with Gonzalez and the Nationals at MLB odds that are still too low on this road favorite.

Yankees (74-64, -6.4 Units) at Orioles (71-68, +0.0 Units)
  • Baltimore is 73-53 (+17.9 Units) at home when the money line is +125 to -125 over the last three seasons.
  • Baltimore is 44-29 (+11.2 Units) in home games this season.
  • Baltimore is 25-10 (+13.6 Units) in home games when playing on Wednesday over the last three seasons.
  • New York is 24-44 (-15.7 Units) in road games against division opponents over the last two seasons.
  • New York is 16-29 (-13.5 Units) on the road when the money line is +125 to -125 this season.
  • New York is 17-19 (-4.8 Units) when playing against a team with a winning record in the second half of the season.

The Bombers have lost an astounding 11 consecutive series in Baltimore dating back to September of 2013. New York is 10-25 in all games played at Baltimore since the beginning of the 2014 season. Manny Machado added to the Yankees’ tale of woe at Camden Yards by slamming a walk-off two run bomb to capture a 7-6 Orioles’ victory last night.

The O’s send Kevin Gausman to the hill who has pitched well after the All-Star break with a 5-2 record and an impressive 3.12 ERA in his last 10 starts. Gausman’s team record is 10-5 (+5.5 Units) when starting against the Yankees with an ERA of 3.16 and a WHIP of 1.34. We will gladly take our chances and include Baltimore in our MLB picks laying the small price.
