We suffered a setback Tuesday with the Red Sox on the run line getting torched by the Blue Jays, while the heavy underdog Marlins could not pull the upset in Colorado. Let’s get back on track today with our two top MLB picks for Wednesday.

Angels (78-79, +3.6 Units) at White Sox (64-93, -3.8 Units)
  • Chicago is 39-66 (-9.6 Units) in night games this season.
  • Chicago is 44-67 (-3.0 Units) against right-handed starters this season.
  • Chicago is 33-57 (-10.6 Units) after a loss this season.
  • Los Angeles is 60-56 (+6.3 Units) in night games this season.
  • Los Angeles is 13-11 (+2.3 Units) when playing on Wednesday this season.
  • Los Angeles is 56-56 (+3.6 Units) against right-handed starters this season.

Garrett Richards, LA’s starter tonight, has been in a grove recently with a 1.69 ERA and a 0.56 WHIP over his last three. His offense has not supported his brilliant efforts and therefore he has no wins to show for his fine performances. On the road, Richards has been stellar but has spent much of the season on the DL. In three road appearances this season he owns a 0.64 ERA and a 0.78 WHIP.

This is a mismatch from start to finish and we see an easy Angels win here, which is why we will bid adieu to the money line and back the Halos on the run line, anticipating another dazzling performance from Richards against a less-than-middling White Sox lineup.

Tigers (62-95, -32.2 Units) at Royals (77-80, +2.9 Units)
  • Kansas City is 34-40 (-5.4 Units) against division opponents this season.
  • Kansas City is 51-55 (-0.7 Units) in night games this season.
  • Kansas City’s starter Jason Hammel’s career team record is 26-26 (-23.8 Units) as a home favorite of -175 to -250.
  • Detroit is 35-47 (+4.6 Units) as a road underdog of +125 to +175 over the last three seasons.
  • Detroit is 4-4 (+0.4 Units) versus the Royals at Kansas City this season.
  • Detroit’s starter Jordan Zimmermann is 3-0 when starting against the Royals with an ERA of 1.26 and a WHIP of 0.97.

Although the Tigers are mired in a shame-spiral, dropping eight consecutive games, this column is about the value being rendered by the MLB odds, and we believe there’s enough meat on this bone to make Detroit one of our MLB picks tonight. The Tigers’ Jordan Zimmermann has struggled recently, but so too has Kansas City’s starter Jason Hammel. This will not be a classic pitcher’s duel tonight and there should be plenty of crooked numbers, so we look to the offenses to get it going with the starters as their first casualty.

Hammel’s team record is 6-16 (-11.7 Units) in night games this season and 9-15 (-12.2 Units) when playing against a team with a losing record over the last two seasons. On the flipside, Zimmermann is 3-0 in his career versus KC with a 1.26 ERA and a 0.97 WHIP. In addition, these teams have split the eight meetings at Kauffman Stadium this season, so let’s grab all that juice and watch the Tigers snap their slump.
