Yesterday we swept both of our MLB picks including a big underdog in the Atlanta Braves cruising to an 8-0 road win over the Nationals as well as the St. Louis Cardinals in a 13-4 rout over the Cincinnati Reds. Let’s see what Wednesday’s slate has to offer.

Marlins (68-76, -6.4 Units) at Phillies (55-89, -18.6 Units)
  • Philadelphia is 31-61 (-21.6 Units) in night games this season.
  • Philadelphia is 35-70 (-27.1 Units) against right-handed starters this season.
  • Philadelphia is 30-46 (-10.0 units) when playing against a team with a losing record this season.
  • Miami is 26-18 (+7.5 Units) when playing against a team with a losing record in the second half of the season.
  • Miami is 14-12 (+4.5 Units) on the road when the total is 8 to 8.5 this season.
  • Miami’s starter Daniel Straily is 4-1 when starting against the Phillies with an ERA of 3.90 and a WHIP of 1.66.

Although the Marlins lost a 15 inning grinder last night we expect them to rebound with a win against the Phillies tonight. Starting pitcher Daniel Straily has fared well against the lowly Phillies with a 4-1 mark and looking to make it 5-1 this evening. On the other side of the coin, Aaron Nola has been hammered by the Fish in his six starts against them. But over his last three appearances versus Miami the stat line looks downright dismal with Nola losing each of his three starts against them with a 10.67 ERA to boot. Let’s take advantage of the generous MLB odds being offered and grab the Marlins plus the price.

White Sox (57-87, -26.9 Units) at Royals (72-72, +5.9 Units)
  • Kansas City is 86-69 (+14.5 Units) in home games over the last two seasons.
  • Kansas City is 77-64 (+16.1 Units) against division opponents over the last two seasons.
  • Kansas City is 56-52 (+8.2 Units) against right-handed starters this season.
  • Chicago is 28-60 (-22.1 Units) in road games after a loss over the last two seasons.
  • Chicago is 17-43 (-17.7 Units) as a road underdog of +125 to +175 over the last two seasons.
  • Chicago is 4-16 (-9.5 Units) when playing on Wednesday this season.

Kansas City rebounded with a 4-3 win over the White Sox last night after getting drilled 11-3 in the opener of this three game set. The Royals will send southpaw Eric Skoglund to the hill and he will look to get well after a disastrous start against the Indians in which he was chased in the second inning after allowing the Tribe to bury him with seven runs in what resulted in a 12-0 loss.

But let’s not forget that this is the same kid who made shined in his major league debut when he dueled Justin Verlander over six plus innings surrendering just two hits and no runs in a 1-0 Royals victory. After one relief appearance Skoglund has had time to work on his mechanics and come back strong as he has not appeared since September 2nd which was in relief. We say the young man gets his mojo back as we include the Royals in our MLB picks to win the rubber match of this three-game set with the White Sox.
