It was the second consecutive day of splitting our MLB picks but today we get back to the long grind that is the MLB season and look forward to connecting on both our Wednesday selections.

Dodgers (89-35, +35.3 Units) at Pirates (60-66, -6.2 Units)
  • Pittsburgh is 37-48 (-14.5 Units) in night games this season.
  • Pittsburgh is 65-83 (-24.4 Units) after a loss over the last two seasons.
  • Pittsburgh is 6-13 (-8.0 Units) when playing on Wednesday this season.
  • Los Angeles is 49-14 (+24.5 Units) when playing against a team with a losing record this season.
  • Los Angeles is 64-26 (+23.2 Units) in night games this season.
  • Los Angeles is 63-25 (+24.5 Units) after a win this season.

We cashed with the Dodgers yesterday and will ride this pony until it stops running. Los Angeles is having an historic season with 89 wins already in the bag and we still have over a week left of August. The Dodgers are 5-0 versus the Pirates this season and will send Rich Hill to the bump where he owns a 3-1 career mark against the Bucs with an ERA of 3.69 and a WHIP of 1.20. He will be opposed by Pittsburgh’s Trevor Williams who takes a 1-2 record with an ERA of 6.19  over his last three appearances.

Big Blue has outscored the Pirates 35-16 in their five victories this season so we will eschew the rather lofty MLB odds on LA and instead turn to the run line here as we see LA easily outpacing Pittsburgh in this one. Los Angeles owns one of the most explosive offenses in baseball versus the 25th ranked Pirates and therefore we advise you back the Dodgers as one of your MLB picks tonight and watch them cruise to victory.

Padres (56-69, +3.1 Units) at Cardinals (63-62, -8.1 Units)
  • St. Louis is 32-33 (-17.1 Units) as a home favorite of -125 to -175 over the last two seasons.
  • St. Louis is 46-51 (-24.5 Units) in home games in night games over the last two seasons.
  • St. Louis is 48-49 (-8.8 Units) against right-handed starters this season.
  • San Diego is 11-8 (+6.7 Units) when playing on Wednesday this season.
  • San Diego is 43-49 (+6.7 Units) against right-handed starters this season.
  • San Diego is 41-43 (+9.4 Units) in night games this season.

There are many reasons to fade San Diego in a given game but tonight is not one of those opportunities. Although the Padres are 13 games below .500, notice that they are +3.1 units to the good this season. That is because the public loves to fade bad teams, no matter the price. Here we have a veteran hurler in Jhoulys Chacin going for the Padres who has pitched very well in three out of his last four starts. The Cardinals will counter with young Luke Weaver who has bounced around from Triple-A Memphis to the big club and will now take on a lineup he has never faced. The young righty has not made a big league appearance since August 2nd and is now tagged as a big favorite even after the Cards were hammered 12-4 by the Padres last night in the opener of this three-game set.

We see plenty of value here and will back San Diego as a sizeable road dog in St. Louis tonight.
