Great pitching matchup today in San Diego has me backing the under the total for my MLB picks. Andrew Cashner can be really tough at home for the Padres and Jacob deGrom has been stellar for the Mets.

The Petco Line
San Diego is notorious as a pitcher’s park (last season ranked second in offensive production) and today we should a lot of zeros on the board. MLB odds makers have come out with this line at 6.5.  That makes perfect sense to me because both these pitchers can lights out and neither offense has a ton of punch.

Lights Out
deGrom comes in for the Mets with a 2.71 ERA and 1.08 WHIP.  He has been sensational this year and has only allowed two runs in his last 15 innings.  He has been roughed up a bit this year on the road, but today at Petco he should find a lot more success.  Cashner comes in with an ERA of 3.00 and 1.27 WHIP.  In his last three years at home he has a 2.11 ERA and batters are only hitting .215 off him in that span.  Oddly enough he is 2-7 on the year so look for him to be in shut down mode.

Problems at the Plate
San Diego has a decent offense but at home they have had some difficulty, not only does their run total per game go down statistically this season, they are ranked 27th in the league in on base % plus slugging.  The Mets have nothing to shout about, after their hot start they stalled just a bit and rank in the bottom ten in most offensive categories, and on the road they are the second worst ranked in the league in runs per game.

This game has all the makings of a pretty boring affair.  Look for deGrom and Cashner to keep the runs off the board and take the under with your MLB picks.
