MLB analyst Ross Benjamin provides a betting preview on Wednesday night’s game between Houston and Seattle. Ross has a strong opinion on this total and gives his pick in that regard.

Houston Astros At Seattle Mariners

The Astros and Mariners will play in the rubber match of their 3-game series Wednesday night. The opening pitch from Safeco Field in Seattle is slated for 10:10 PM ET. Seattle took the series opener Monday by a score of 6-0, and Tuesday night Houston prevailed 7-5. This will be the 6th meeting of the season between these AL West rivals with Houston winning 4 of the first 5.

At the time of this writing, MLB odds display Houston as anywhere from -105 to -120 on the money line. There’s a total of either 8.0 or 8.5 depending on which of the best sportsbooks you’re looking at.

Starting Pitchers

Right-hander Mike Fiers will get the start for Houston. Fiers has made 4 career starts against Seattle, with all of those coming since 2015. He collected a lofty 4.95 ERA during those outings.

The Mariners will go with 31-year-old veteran right-hander Yovani Gallardo. His first start of the season was a less than inspiring one. He allowed 3 earned runs on 8 hits while walking 2 in 5.0 innings during a 5-1 loss to the Angels. Gallardo also endured a tough spring, evidenced by his substantial 7.47 ERA in 5 starts.

 Final Analysis & Pick

I’m not crazy about either of these starting pitchers. Neither bullpen has been very good thus far, and Seattle’s relievers have been especially shaky. Houston has smashed 12 home runs in its first 9 games of 2017, and that’s not a surprise considering the Astros have been one of the top power-laden teams in each of the past 2 seasons. Houston has gone 20-8 'over' the total on the road in April since 2015. I look for plenty of runs to be scored in this game, and one of my MLB picks will be indicative of such.
