Our MLB betting expert breaks down Tuesday night’s interleague game between Miami and Seattle. Read on as to why Ross Benjamin likes the visiting Marlins, who will add the designated hitter.

Miami Marlins At Seattle Mariners

The Marlins and Mariners are set to open a 3-game series at Safeco Field in Seattle on Tuesday night. The opening pitch is scheduled for 10:10 PM ET. Current MLB betting odds have Miami ranging from -105 to -107 on the money line, and Seattle -103 to -115. There’s a posted total of 8.5 at all of the best sportsbooks.

Both teams enter riding a 3-game win streak. Since the start of last season, Miami has gone 9-1 'over' the total during interleague road games. Additionally, Miami is 13-7 during April away games in 2016 and 2017. Seattle is a dismal 1-6 on the road in 2017 and a substantially better 4-2 at home.

Starting Pitchers

Miami will send veteran southpaw Wei-Yen Chen to the mound. Chen was very good in his 2017 debut at Citi Field in New York that ended up being a 7-2 Marlins win. Unfortunately, his next start was the extreme opposite, and it once again came against the Mets. He allowed 6 earned runs in just 3.0 innings of work during a 9-8 Marlins loss. Nevertheless, Chen is a stellar 22-6 in his career road starts vs. AL West opponents. Furthermore, Chen has made 5 career starts at Seattle and posted a stellar 2.82 ERA in those outings.

Yovani Gallardo will be making his 3rd start of the season for Seattle, and his first 2 were less than inspiring. Gallardo compiled a lofty 6.30 ERA and 2.10 WHIP in those appearances, which resulted in Seattle losses. Gallardo’s poor pitching to begin 2017 has carried over from his shaky spring training outings (5 starts/7.47 ERA). The right-hander also registered a sizable 7.00 ERA during 4 April starts for Baltimore in 2016.

 Marlins' Bullpen Edge

Miami’s bullpen was expected to be a strength. Thus far, th at group has lived up to those prospects. Miami relievers have a cumulative 2.73 ERA and 1.12 WHIP. In the past 7 games, the Marlins bullpen had an even better 2.18 ERA and 1.00 WHIP.

The Seattle bullpen has been terrible to start the season, and that’s especially been the case of late. During Seattle’s last 7 games, Mariners relievers have compiled a large 8.27 ERA and 2.08 WHIP.

Final Word & Prediction

I haven’t been a big fan of Seattle's Gallardo in recent years and have often opted to wager against him. I’m going to continue with that tendency when making one of my Tuesday MLB picks.
