LA has taken the first two games of this series, by identical scores of 6-5, winning both games in its final at-bats. How do we think Wednesday night's series finale might fall along the betting lines?
Seattle Mariners vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Game 2 Recap
Seattle grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first inning Tuesday night, with back-to-back homers from Robinson Cano and a smokin' hot Nelson Cruz. The Mariners later led 5-4 going into the bottom of the ninth, but closer Fernando Rodney gave up a single-single-walk-single, the last by Howie Kendrick that knocked in two runs and gave the Dodgers the 6-5 victory.
LA won as a +105 post-time home dog Tuesday, and the game, to our delight, played OVER its total of 7.5.
Dodgers starter David Huff gave up four runs on seven hits through four innings, while Mariners starter Hisashi Iwakuma allowed four runs and six hits through five innings. That's how that game went OVER.
These two teams are now both 6-2 on the totals this season.
Sunday Rodney gave up four runs in the ninth inning to blow a save against Oakland, although the Mariners won that game in extra innings. So the Seattle closer has allowed six runs and seven hits, with three walks, over his last two outings. Cause for concern?
M's-Dodgers Game 3 Betting Odds
As of early Wednesday morning LA and Brett Anderson could be found at -125 at Bovada, while Seattle and Taijuan Walker could be bet at +127 in MLB odds. But books keep tabs on things like that, and those prices were probably quick to change.
And the total sat at either seven or 7.5, with some enticing prices on both sides.
Wednesday's Starting Pitchers
Anderson will be making his second start of this season for his new team, after giving up three runs and five hits in six innings of a 4-3 loss at Arizona last Friday. All three of those runs came on one swing of the bat, a Paul Goldschmidt homer in the bottom of the third.
Last year, pitching for Colorado, Anderson went three-for-eight on quality starts; the Rockies went 3-5 in those starts, with the totals going 3-4.
Anderson last started against Seattle two Aprils ago, when as an Oakland A he gave up two runs in seven innings of a 2-0 loss.
Walker will be making his second start of this season. He pitched well down in the Cactus League this Spring, but got bombed for nine runs and nine hits in less than four innings in his season debut last Friday at Oakland, a 12-0 loss.
Last year, coming up for good late in the season, Walker went two-for-five on quality starts; Seattle went 2-3 in those starts, with the totals going 2-3.
Keep in mind when forming your MLB Picks, this will be Walker's first-ever start against the Dodgers.
Dodgers OF Yasiel Puig missed Tuesday's game with a sore hammy, and his status for Wednesday is uncertain.
Mariners vs. Dodgers Game 3 Free Pick
We picked a winner with the OVER on Tuesday night's game, and could easily see something similar happening tonight. Dodger Stadium is known as a pitchers' park, but these two teams are banging the ball around pretty good at the moment. And if Rodney gets in the game again, well, who knows what the final tally might be.
