The Seattle Mariners are back in action Friday as they continue their playoff push in Anaheim against the Los Angeles Angels. Check out our Mariners-Angels picks.

The Mariners have won two of their last three games and now sit at 80-62 on the season with a five-game lead for the final wild-card spot.

Meanwhile, amid another disappointing year, the Angels own nearly the exact opposite record of Seattle at 61-82.

Here are my MLB picks and predictions for Friday’s Mariners vs. Angels game (odds via BetMGM, BetRivers, and DraftKings Sportsbook; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Mariners vs. Angels Game Info

Date: Friday, Sept. 16, 9:38 p.m. ET
Location: Angel Stadium, Anaheim, CA
Weather: 75 degrees, 0% chance of precipitation, 8-mph winds

Mariners vs. Angels Odds Analysis

The Mariners opened at -161 and now have a wide range on the board. They’re as low as -148 (BetRivers) and as high as -165 (DraftKings). In turn, the best number you can get on the Angels is +140 (DraftKings) after they opened at +135.

The total has moved up to 8.5 at some books after opening at 8.

Mariners vs. Angels Projected Pitchers

Robbie Ray (12-9, 3.56 ERA, 1.15 WHIP) vs. Michael Lorenzen (6-6, 4.70 ERA, 1.34 WHIP)

Ray gave up more than two runs in a start for the first time since July last time out against the Atlanta Braves, allowing four runs in five innings. Prior to that, however, he allowed just one earned run in his previous three starts. In three starts against the Angels this season, Ray is 2-0 with four earned runs on 14 hits and five walks to go along with 30 strikeouts in 20 innings.

Lorenzen was up and down earlier in the season but had a solid start in his return from injury last week. However, he allowed seven runs in five innings in a head-to-head matchup against Ray and the Mariners back in June.

Mariners vs. Angels Picks

Mariners vs. Angels ML Pick

Mariners (-148) ★★★★★

This bet is almost worth making for the value alone. The Mariners are -148 at BetRivers and their next best price is -155 (Unibet) with multiple books listing them at -160 or shorter.

On top of that, the Mariners are simply a much better team than the Angels. Not only overall, but the Mariners are 20-7 against losing teams in the second half while the Angels are 13-24 against winning teams in the second half. Seattle is 11-4 after an off-day while the Angels are 4-14 after a day off.

Mariners vs. Angels O/U Pick

Over 8.5 (+100) ★★★

I’m less certain about the total, but given the run differential in the three games listed above (an average of more than eight runs per game for the Mariners), I have to go Over.

Furthermore, the Over has hit in each of the last five meetings and is 10-3-1 in the last 14 meetings in Los Angeles. Ray has pitched to 13 Overs and 11 Unders (8-4 on the road) while the Over is 10-4 in Lorenzen’s starts (4-3 at home).

Mariners vs. Angels Prop Pick

Ray Over 6.5 Strikeouts (+100) ★★★★

Ray has 10 strikeouts in each of his three starts against the Angels this season. Los Angeles has the fifth-highest strikeout rate against left-handed pitchers this season, and Ray has taken advantage of that.

Overall, Ray has gone Over 6.5 strikeouts in 14 of his 28 starts, including five of his last seven and nine of his last 15.
