If you’re a fan of watching marquee veteran pitchers square off, then Wednesday’s series finale in San Francisco between the Giants and Seattle Mariners is right up your alley. The 2-game interleague set concludes with a 7:15 PM (ET) first pitch from Johnny Cueto at AT&T Park, Felix Hernandez scheduled to toe the rubber for the Mariners.

Seattle jumped out to a 4-zip lead Tuesday before many Giants fans even made it to their seats, and the 1st-inning barrage was enough of a cushion for Marco Gonzales and three Mariner relievers in a 6-4 victory. Wednesday’s King Felix-Johnny Beisbol matchup has San Francisco chalked in the -120s on the MLB odds board with 7½ for the total.

Hernandez Pitching For 1st Time At AT&T

Trying to bounce back from an injury-marred 2017 season, Hernandez (1-0, 0.00) posted zeroes into the sixth last week at home against the Indians and got the dubya in a 2-1 contest. He struck out four and allowed only two hits after manager Scott Servais and pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre eased Hernandez through spring training with only two official starts. All four of his previous assignments vs. the Giants came in Seattle, the Venezuelan 3-0 in those starts with a 1.86 ERA (29 IUP).

Cueto (0-0, 0.00) was sharp in his season debut last week in Los Angeles, but came up with a no-decision despite seven innings of 1-hit scoreless baseball against the Dodgers. The Giants, priced as +147 underdogs at Bookmaker, eventually got the 1-0 dubya thanks to a Joe Panik homer in the top of the ninth. Today’s matchup will be just the third time Cueto has faced the Mariners and first since 2015 after his trade to the Royals. Dee Gordon and Jean Segura have the most experience among the M’s against the Dominican, that pair combining for a .250 average (14-56).

Series Trends, Umpire Notes & A Free Pick

It’s the M’s with a 17-13 edge in the interleague series following Tuesday’s tilt, the clubs slated to meet for another quick set at Safeco Field in late-July. Seattle has won 5 of 7 with four of the last six falling short of the totals. Lance Barksdale is expected to call balls and strikes for the second time this season, his first plate assignment paying off for ‘under’ bettors following a 7-21-4 O/U/P record last season.

Without Nelson Cruz in the Seattle lineup (on DL) and with Panik serving as practically the entire San Franciso offense so far, my free baseball pick is on the ‘under.’
