There's a ton of appealing matchups on the board this evening in the MLB to choose from. I've zeroed in on two games in which I think that the MLB Odds offer a major edge.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs Colorado Rockies
I have my Coors Field Rule about taking the over the total, no matter how high, when there are two sub pars pitchers and taking the under the total when the pitching is average or better. The betting total will always be in double digits unless Clayton Kershaw pitches.

Tonight's pitching matchup is kind of "blurry" as Archie Bradley (3-3, 4.83 ERA) takes the mound for the Diamondbacks and he's opposed by Tyler Anderson (0-1, 2.25 ERA), who has pitched well, but in a short sampling. As a matter of fact despite Bradley's 4.83 ERA, he broke a 3 game losing streak with a 5-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies in which he allowed just 1 run on 3 hits in 6 innings.

Being that both pitchers are coming in on a high note and the Rockies have been on an extended road trip an have just returned recently to Coors with a 7-6 loss to the Diamondbacks, the under looks appealing because the total is usually based on the Rockies ability to hit home runs and they've lost touch with Coors Field as they haven't played there in a while.

More evidence of this is even though the total did eclipse it's expect mark yesterday with 13 runs, only Mark Reynolds hit a home run for Colorado and Scorates Brito hit a homer for the D'Backs. None of the big bats were a major factor unless you want to consider Mark Reynolds (7 HR, 28 RBI, .290 BA) a big bat.

Where Reynolds is concerned, shockingly, he's been a different player as a member of the Rockies. He was always known as a player that couldn't hit his weight, but could hit the ball out of the ballpark often. Now, he's hitting a career high .290, which is huge considering that he's a career .233 hitter and his power has lessened despite yesterday's home run.

Goldy
Finally, Paul Goldschmidt has returned to his superstar form after a slow start this season. After another 3 hit game, he's currently hitting .296 along with 14 HR, 46 RBI, and a .429 OBP%. Opposing pitcher still fear Goldy and they should. He's hitting .359 in the month of June along with 4 HR and 13 RBI. During every Colorado-related bet, I choose the total, but for once, I'm leaning towards the team with some momentum and the pitcher with more experience after breaking a losing streak. Make Arizona, who has won 6 out of their last 7 games, your MLB Pick in this particular game.

Cleveland Indians at Detroit Tigers
This is the city of Cleveland's year. They have a Cavaliers team that has broken a city championship drought of 52 years and the Cleveland Indians are currently in 1st place in the American League Central Division with a 41-30 mark.  As crazy as it seems, I do believe that the Cavs game 7 victory over the Splash Brothers does carry over to how the baseball team plays as good play is infectious in any sport.

Tonight, we have a big-time starting pitching matchup as Danny Salazar (8-3, 2.23 ERA) of the Tribe squares off against Jordan Zimmermann (9-3 ,3.24 ERA ) for the Tigers. The MLB Odds also display this as the Tigers are a mere -104 betting favorite despite playing at Commerica Park. I happen to like the total in ths game of 8 runs. Although I know the Tigers carry heavy bats, led by the best player in baseball for the last decade plus in Miguel Cabrera (16 HR, 44 RBI, .301 BA), but even if Cabrera has a 3 for 3 or 4 for 4 night, that doesn't necessarily mean that the total for the game will go over.

Detroit is a on a modest 4 game winning streak and I think that they'll carry the solid play over past the All-Star Break, but I'm not willing to challenge Danny Salazar and a 1st place Cleveland Indians team who have actually won 6 games in a row. Something has to give here as one of these winning streaks will cease tonight.

Under Is the Way To Go!
While the Tigers offense is very imposing, with 4 hitters hitting over .298, this game has under the total written all over it. Detroit hasn't scored more than 5 runs in their last 3 wins and Cleveland's defense has allowed 11 runs in their last 6 games. That's an average of less than 2 runs per game. Under is the way to go here.
