Each and every Sunday Swinger looks to bust your bookmaker with his MLB picks so get ready to end your week on a winning note as he reveals his winning selection for Sunday, September 21st.

Swinger's 2014 MLB Record (28-29-1, -14.15 units) *Picks are rated from 1 to 5 units*
Perhaps I should just stick to my five unit plays which occur about as often as JJ Gold hits a winning streak. They're rare but they are indeed lethal if you're on the receiving end of those wagers. Yet, wonder of all wonders, I have a perfect spot for another one today. Once again we clicked last week with a maximum five unit play on the Athletics -150 in MLB odds as they pocketed a 4-0 victory over their hosts, the Seattle Mariners.

In our other two MLB picks we took a shot with a big underdog, the San Francisco Giants +160 at home against the deadliest gun slinger in the major leagues Clayton Kershaw. It was a three-unit money burner but we jumped right back on the winning track when the AL East leading Orioles -125 edged the Yankees 3-2 for three units.

So, we went 2-1 last Sunday, picked up five units, and are still gamely trying to crawl back from the abyss. Let's take a look at the MLB odds today and see which sides and totals will not only make sense but make us some cold, hard cash!

Nationals vs. Marlins (MAX PLAY - Money Line and Run Line)
The Nats have run away with the NL East and the only thing left is to stay healthy and secure the coveted top seed in the postseason. Stephen Strasburg is chuckin' for Washington in hostile territory this afternoon, currently installed as a -165 favorite over the Marlins, and I believe he's money today.

Check Out the National League Wild Card Landscape!

The Nationals are looking to close out this series with a four-game sweep and Strasburg is poised to deliver. The big right-hander has looked like his old self during the second half of the season registering a 5-3 record and a 2.64 ERA. Last week he blanked the Braves, tossing seven innings of five-hit baseball en route to a 4-2 road victory where he was a -135 betting favorite in MLB odds.

He will be opposed by Nathan Eovaldi who has been torched in his last two outings, failing to make it out of the fifth inning in each. Here are some betting trends to consider for those who are still unconvinced the Nationals are a solid play here.

The Nationals are 6-1 SU in their last 7 games.

The Nationals are 17-7 in their last 24 games vs. Marlins.

The Nationals are 7-3 SU in their last 10 games at Marlins.

That says all you need to know and of course Miami is still floundering without the immense talents of Giancarlo Stanton in their lineup who is recovering from a fastball to the face. There's no alternative here. Bet the Nats!

Rangers vs. Angels
The Rangers are ranked 9th in batting average throughout the major leagues which is about the best you can say for this spectacularly miserable 2014 season. However, they head into LA this afternoon to conclude a three-game series in which this is the rubber match. Oh, and by the way, they will win the game and the series while the Angels will blithely go on their way with the best record in baseball and headed straight into the postseason.

Nick Tepesch takes the hill for the Rangers and though he is hardly a household name Tepesch did deliver six quality innings in a victory over the Athletics earlier this week and will do the same again this afternoon. He will be opposed by Corey Rasmus who is a relief pitcher being pressed into a starter's role. Last season Rasmus posted a 6.75 ERA against the Rangers in four appearances.

Bottom line here is that the Rangers are getting value and the Angels will be looking ahead to a three-game series with their arch rivals the Oakland Athletics whom they could very well meet in the ALCS down the road. That series starts tomorrow and I believe the Angels are already on that plane. Grab the juice and play Texas in your MLB picks.
